How can you go by it looks pretty good when all it's just a pre-rendered cutscene of some CGI doofus having a monologue?

If it's anything like the Emperor Edition, it will be fun in its own right. Hopefully the new features and factions add more variety and entertainment as well.

This is to Rome 2 what Napoleon was to Empire.
Similar assets, based in the same timeline, but yes it is a stand alone game.
Hopefully it won't take them an entire year after release to finish the game this time.
