They did a pretty convincing job of making it look like a dude in a rubber suit.
CGI is a bit too good I honestly thought those tanks were real and Godzilla was a suite

Godzilla's p. clearly CG, but those tanks were needlessly good looking, I thought it was another "Watch the JSDF do exercises and shoot the rodeo"
Its kind of impressive that they're able to churn out such convincing CGI, their movies iirc are still way more focused on practical effect, the CGI spam never really took off as much as it did here.
I mean im sure they use it often enough but everything i see is still practical wire stunts and props except when totally impossible.

Even then he's only noticeably CG when its a closeup on his face or when you notice how his tail moves.

It was actually a mix of puppetry and motion capture alongside CGI, so there was still definitely some practical effects behind the scenes.

Glad they went with this route instead, imagine another scenario like with Kenpachiro Satsuma or the Showa films of the old had they went full suit again

As much as the CGI is well done... Does anyone else find the Godzilla design fucking ugly? Not in a way that it's supposed to be ugly and scary but that it actually looks ugly and a bit stupid.

It's clearly Anno/Higuchi trying to re-invent Godzilla by making him some unrecognizable thing rather than the old fashioned nuclear horror.
