Cincinnati school denies employment to music teacher because he is gay

This is especially interesting because I go to this school (despite not being a Christian and disagreeing with the majority of what people who attend here think)
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -The Human Rights Campaign and Equality Cincinnati are calling on the Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy to reverse a decision to not hire a gay employee.
30-year-old Jonathan Zeng of Cincinnati applied and was selected as the music teacher for CHCA's Otto Armleder Memorial Education Center.
"I got a call from the principal saying that she was pleased to tell me that I was the candidate they had chosen to fill the position which I was happy to hear," says Zeng who shortly after hearing the news was asked to meet with the principal, a representative from the board of trustees and the head CHCA schools to finalize the decision.
Zeng says they discussed a number of things including salary and training times but his sexual orientation was never brought up.
Shortly after that meeting, Zeng was called back to the school for some "unresolved business."
"That's when he asked me if I was a homosexual and explained that school policy was not to hire homosexuals and a number of other things so that was the end of that," says Zeng.
CHCA released this statement to FOX19:
"CHCA keeps confidential all matters discussed within a candidate's interview. We're looking into this matter, although the initial information we have seen contains inaccuracies. We will not be discussing individual hiring decisions or interviews."
The other article states that the school didn't want to hire him after learning he was gay because they were uncomfortable having him work with children.
As someone who attends this school I can definitely say that this is the attitude of most of the people who go there. I, for one, am sad and embarrassed that this occurred.
This really doesnt surprise me

I hate to bring up the typical response, but this could be expected of many Christian academies. It's incredibly unfortunate, especially the nonsense about them not wanting him to work with kids, as if he's any more of a danger to them than a straight person.
"sheltering" the children wouldn't do anything major, except possibly make them more callous or isolated from people who are different than them
fucking assholes, hire the guy, he isn't gonna hurt anyone
To be honest, it would seem a but hypocritical for a Christian school to hire a homosexual employee.
But on the other hand, the employer could be in trouble for workplace discrimination. Especially since they aren't allowed to discuss age, race, or sexual preference when hiring/working.
My facebook feed is clogged up with people talking about this and condemning this man for his "choice" of being a dirty, evil, vile homosexual.
BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN??!?!?!? HE COULD PERFORM HIS HIDEOUS HOMOSEXUAL ACTS ON THEM AND TURN THEM INTO HOMOS!!!!!!

Federally, homosexuals aren't a protected class. Therefore nothing can be done about the employer's methods.

tell them that they're immoral, because they are acting immoral for being discriminatory towards someone who is born in a certain way

Tell them to go back to Uganda.

oh boy here we go
Yep sounds like half of my school talking right there

...because being gay makes you more likely to become a pedophile, what amazing logic!

I dream of a world with no religion but one common feeling of compassion for each others. Sadly just a dream.
While I don't agree with the school's decision in any way, shape, or form, they ARE a Private School.
Not only a private school, but a Christian school.
Technically, they do have the right to do this.
Not saying I agree with it, but... them's the breaks...
But I really do hate when something like this happens.
I see myself as, for lack of a better term, a progressive Catholic (inb4 "HEUHEU, THAT'S AN OXYMORON YOU GOD-LOVING FAGGOT").
While I AM Catholic, I still think that Gays should be married, I believe in evolution, etc.
The bad thing is, whenever something like this happens, it makes all of us look like biased, bigoted, backwards fuckwits.
And that really burns my ass.

Reply with one of these:
"Judge not, lest ye be judged."
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
"Love thy neighbor."
And if they're of the female persuasion:
"I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."
Then watch their heads explode like an android presented with a logical paradox.
Great, I live right next to Cinci.
I live in the Cincinnati area. It's a bunch of stereotyping soccer moms with disobeying kids who do whatever they want. Basic idea? Not surprising, since it's Ohio.

I live here. This quote is accurate.
If this is true, it's illegal and they'll lose in court.
Anti-discrimination laws (Equal Opportunity Act) protecting homosexuals along with minorities, women, etc have existed for a long time.

Damn, I think you're right.
I could have sworn homosexuality was protected.
It has sex/gender as being protected, but I guess it's not quite the same thing.

Homophobic pricks.
It should be against the law to deny employment over sexual orientation and fire employees over sexual orientation.
