Farmer gets pissed, decides to do his own monster truck rally with police cruisers
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Working in a stout former bank building with windows closed and air conditioners humming, Orleans County sheriff's deputies didn't know what was happening in their parking lot until a neighbor called 911.
A man on a big farm tractor, angry about his recent arrest for resisting arrest and marijuana possession, was rolling across their vehicles — five marked cruisers, one unmarked car and a transport van.
By the time they ran outside, the tractor was down the driveway and out onto the road.
With their vehicles crushed, "We had nothing to pursue him with," said Chief Deputy Philip Brooks.
Thursday afternoon's incident ended when city police in Newport, the county seat of the northern Vermont county, caught up with Roger Pion, 34, a short distance away.
No one was injured. At least two deputies had gone inside a few moments before after washing their vehicles, officials said.
"Nobody was hurt. That's the thing everybody's got to cherish," said Sheriff Kirk Martin.
Brooks said late Thursday afternoon it was uncertain what new charges Pion would face. He said Pion was being held by the Vermont State Police at their barracks in nearby Derby. A dispatcher there referred questions to the sheriff's department.
Sheriffs said they did not know if Pion had a lawyer. A phone number for him could not be located.
Martin estimated damage to the vehicles at more than $300,000. Not only were their roofs and hoods caved in, "the radios are ruined, the radar detectors, the cages in the cars ... We're going to have to get the jaws of life up here to pry the trunks open and see about the rifles and shotguns," Martin said.
Brooks said the vehicles destroyed constituted more than half the fleet of sheriff's cruisers in the rural county on the Canadian border. Others were out on patrol at the time of the incident.
Imo, not a cool thing to do no matter how much you hate the police. Now with half their fleet crushed, its going to raise the time it takes to respond to calls to service and it is going to cost tax-payers a lot of money. All he did was hurt the citizens and gave the SO a headache.
fuck tha police
But he should have ran the wheel over the hinges of the trunk a bunch of times so that the door falls off, then collected the guns, escaped in his tractor, sold the guns (keeping one or two) and living his new life as a coke pusher/manual laborer.
That's awesome, I wish there was a video of it happening. Oh and yea well the taxpayers wouldnt have had to pay for this if there was no war on drugs which is what caused this and costs even more.

"they deserve to have the police reaction times skyrocket, I don't give a fuck if someone's getting shot at or kidnapped or raped, a handful of them were anti-drug :downs:"

Police getting someone on an illegal substance is not "war on drugs." They didn't fucking raid him or do some undercover operation to sell weapons or drugs. All they're fucking doing is their jobs, which is to enforce laws. A lot of officer don't agree with certain laws, some think they should be more lax, others more strict. I know many officers I've worked with who let people go for weed, they did their best to make sure it was under that weight limit and just issued a ticket. Most of them don't even care if you do or not, but some things happen and all they can do is enforce the law. Maybe you should be talking to the politicians and taking action against them (protests, letters, etc) seeing as they make these laws and put them in to play. Police can't really win (though i suppose it isn't their jobs to win the minds and hearts of every single person) all they can do is act professionally - which most do, and do their job - enforce laws, protect the public. If they don't enforce such laws they can lose their licenses, careers and various other things.
If an officer does not do his job and gets fired for such thing they're losing more then a "job". They're losing a career, any benefits from it, pensions, they get a stain on their employment history and possible criminal charges. Just saying...
Obviously this guy who ran the cars over is unstable and needs fucking help. I've never met anyone (I've dealt with a lot of people who get picked up for alcohol and drug related charges) and not one of them expressed the want or need to destroy property or an officer. This farmer isn't a hero, he isn't even bad ass. He is pathetic, yeah he showed them /sarcasm. He can be a hero all day when he is in state prison.
Are the guns okay? If they were crushed in a certain way it could cause the guns to fire.

Most guns are built to prevent stuff like that.

Really, it's a freak accident if a gun accidentally discharges. They aren't as fragile as everyone and the media make them out to be.

Agreed, regardless of your opinion on drug laws, that's just horrible. He should have to pay to buy them new cars.

When I was young I found a Mossberg 500 out in my yard while I lived in a rural town. It was loaded and my idea of fun was beating the fuck out of things.
I was only 6 at the time and my father says I'm lucky to be alive.
More ontopic, a tractor? Are those things really that heavy?
Only in my state would an angry farmer crush all the police cruiser's vehicles and have them borrow a car to chase him down.
What else do you do when you're a farmer?

You don't rack up a loaded weapon. That's like a taboo.
Well if they have insurance it will be the insurance company, not the taxpayer footing the bill.
I would assume because of the higher chance of the vehicles getting damaged in use, they most definitely would have some series motor insurance.
Not that it makes this man any less stupid.

It's brilliant if you're cooperating with bank robbers though.
How the fuck did he run over a transport van with a tractor.
all over weed....
How about no.
This guy would've done this for any bullshit reason. He's mentally unstable, and that's why this happened.

This is where I have a problem with your argument. You see my uncle was a cop, they have a 'moral code' so to speak, they never ever tell on each other. Albeit this was in the 70s 80s and 90s but I'm sure not much has changed. The problem is, is that the handful of bad apples DON'T get fired, they just continue on being assholes.
