A pretty bad analogy but providing you had $10,000 I think you'd chose the simpler alternative over the more complicated one. How I see it, is that if Apple would drop the prices, people would loose one of the biggest arguments against buying a Mac. People complaining that the hardware is old, need to know that the OS is "tailored" to work with those components, to make it as stable and safe as possible.
