• Apple Is $50 Billion Away From Becoming The World’s Most Valuable Company
After a record setting quarter that shattered Wall Street estimates, Apple is in a position to become the most valuable company in the world. The company announced on Tuesday that it sold 20.34 million iPhones and 9.25 million iPads in the second quarter of 2011, up by 142% and 183% respectively. That translated to a quarterly record revenue of $28.57 billion and a record net profit of $7.31 billion. The result? Apple shares soared by more than 4% in after hours trading to $394. That translates to a market capitalization of $364 billion. Despite that growth, Apple remains the second most valuable company in the world. Last year, Apple surpassed Microsoft’s market cap and took the title of the world’s most valuable tech company with a market cap of $223 billion. Only one company exceeded its worth: Exxon Mobil, whose net worth at the time was $281.5 billion. Today, the oil giant is worth an astounding $412 billion. Can Apple catch up with Exxon and become the world’s most valuable company? If Apple continues to post record-breaking earnings, it’s definitely possible. However, Exxon Mobil’s profits are soaring as well, and energy tends to perform better than consumer electronics in a stagnant or down economy (you don’t need an iPad, but you still need to drive your car). Our verdict? These two companies are going to continue breaking revenue and profit records, but unless something drastic happens at Exxon or Apple, it may be some time until the technology company beats the oil giant. Holy shit.
29.59 million Hipsters!
Didn't see that coming.
29.59 million Hipsters!
That's stupid, the article just proved that Apple sales are higher than ever. You just need to face it, Apple products are becoming mainstream.
That's stupid, the article just proved that Apple sales are higher than ever. You just need to face it, Apple products are becoming mainstream.
back to microsoft then, fuck da mainstream!!
This is gonna be a "Bash Hipsters" thread.
ironically people still see apple as the underdogs
Apple's entire business strategy is based around brand recognition and consumer ignorance and sadly it works all too well.
Apple's entire business strategy is based around brand recognition and consumer ignorance and sadly it works all too well.
The only ignorance I see is that their Mac and iPad line are way overpriced.
Apple's entire business strategy is based around brand recognition and consumer ignorance and sadly it works all too well.
But it has the Gee Bees and Angwee Bewrds!
unlikely as it is, i hope apple DO NOT beat microsoft, i would hate to be buying apple computers rather than windows computers but like i said.. it's unlikely
unlikely as it is, i hope apple DO NOT beat microsoft, i would hate to be buying apple computers rather than windows computers but like i said.. it's unlikely
Don't buy their products? No one is forcing you too.
unlikely as it is, i hope apple DO NOT beat microsoft, i would hate to be buying apple computers rather than windows computers but like i said.. it's unlikely
What? Why would you switch from Windows to OS X simply because Apple's sales were better than Microsoft's? Hell, why do you even care? You're using Linux.
The only ignorance I see is that their Mac and iPad line are way overpriced.
Apart from the fact that they are marketed as a Computer for artistic people, and that they are utterly amazing for professional video and music production *cough*FinalCut Pro X*cough* Really, there is far superior software available on Windows, on hardware which is far more powerful for a fraction of the price.

(ie, Ableton, Cubase, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects)
But best company still goes to GOOGLE and MICROSOFT.
The only ignorance I see is that their Mac and iPad line are way overpriced.
Ignorance in that they fail to see the alternatives, and shell out a greater amount of money towards the thing that's easier to understand.
Yes, it's all available for Mac, but its cheaper to get it on Windows.
The apps cost the same.
The apps cost the same.
That hardware doesn't.
What? Why would you switch from Windows to OS X simply because Apple's sales were better than Microsoft's? Hell, why do you even care? You're using Linux.
not by choice, i'm windows 7
Ignorance in that they fail to see the alternatives, and shell out a greater amount of money towards the thing that's easier to understand.
lol to suggest that 30 million+ are ignorant is utterly ludicrous are all those people buying mercedes woefully ignorant of all the cheaper alternatives? i don't think so
That hardware doesn't.
Don't buy it then? I don't get why people generalize about a large majority of people without knowing them nor knowing their reasons for using such products. Other companies have done stupider marketing tactics like Microsoft saying on their IE9 splash page that it beats all other browsers in terms of basically everything.
lol to suggest that 30 million+ are ignorant is utterly ludicrous are all those people buying mercedes woefully ignorant of all the cheaper alternatives? i don't think so
Terrible analogy...
Ignorance in that they fail to see the alternatives, and shell out a greater amount of money towards the thing that's easier to understand.
$5,000 to buy a plane that has thousands of buttons that is semi-complicated to use or a $10,000 plane that has one button and is very easy to use. A pretty bad analogy but providing you had $10,000 I think you'd chose the simpler alternative over the more complicated one. [editline]20th July 2011[/editline]
Terrible analogy...
How? People buy more expensive things even though there is a cheaper alternative simply because it looks nice and performs much more sleek.

Meanwhile on a Mac...
FinalCut Pro X is a failure and nearly all the apps put out by Apple are shit and are meant for illiterates but saying that the Windows equivalent is far superior is stupid as nearly all professional grade software is available for Mac as well as Windows. (ie, Ableton, Cubase, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects)
You forgot Logic, which is one of the good Mac-exclusive programs. How I see it, is that if Apple would drop the prices, people would loose one of the biggest arguments against buying a Mac. People complaining that the hardware is old, need to know that the OS is "tailored" to work with those components, to make it as stable and safe as possible.
This title means nothing, the stock price is inflated as FUCK and I can't wait until it crashes down.
Atleast with the $5,000 plane if one thing goes tits up I can remove that part and put a spare in while the broken component is being replaced. Meanwhile on a Mac...
The only thing you could be talking about is an iMac in which case, yes.
Terrible analogy...
why? mercedes and apple both offer 'premium' products and people keep saying that apple computers can do exactly the same thing as windows computers and afaik mercedes cars do pretty much the same thing as all other car brands?
