Cleaning up a wallpaper to look better on a bigger monitor.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, I honestly wasn't sure where would be best to post this, but I decided on this section with it's relation to Art and such.
I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to clean up this image:

I want to use it with my new monitor (1920x1080) but when I go to set it as my wallpaper it ends up looking kinda awful (artifacts, stretching, etc). This image is by far my favorite of all the wallpapers I've found, and I've been using it for a while on my older monitor.
So I was wondering.. first.. is it possible to even do what I'm asking and second.. is it something easy or relatively easy to do?
Thanks.
You're looking at doubling it's size. This will be hard to do.
I'm not being particularly useful, but I'm going to go ahead and suggest looking for something new. Just go on Google images and type "wallpaper" or something while setting the exact size to 1920x1080.

Using the most advanced image editing technology I have come up with this:

Following along the lines of what bopie said, there are millions of similar desktops in an assortment of sizes. It shouldn't be too hard to find a similar one.
I remember the technique for those line things to be quite easy to do, but I can't remember how it's done. If you have Photoshop you should google around and find out how it's done.
Anyway, I whipped this up in literately 30 seconds. If you don't want the pink bit just slap it in paint and draw a black box over it, but it looks empty without it.

Also, bopie, there are much better ways of finding wallpapers than Google.
Edit:
Scratch that, the pink looks shit when it's at full size, use the one above.
Thanks, I'm going to use the one that CyrusTehSage posted I guess. It might be time to choose a new wallpaper.. this one is just my favorite :v:

Jokes aside, it actually does look better.
Use tineye.com to find larger versions of images.
I found this 1600x1200 version using it. Edited out the Windows 7 logo, slightly resized it, and done.

Bump, because I hope you're using my version. CyrusTehSage's is just a canvas resize.
I have a pet peeve for having properly sized desktop backgrounds.
