http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/middle_east/10565103.stm
The authorities in Iran have announced that a woman convicted of adultery will not be stoned to death. But it is not clear whether they have lifted the death sentence against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who has been in prison in Tabriz since 2006. The 43-year-old had already been punished with flogging for an "illicit relationship" outside marriage when another court tried her for adultery. There has been an international campaign to prevent her being stoned. UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said stoning was a "medieval punishment" and that its continued use showed Iran's disregard for human rights. "If the punishment is carried out, it will disgust and appal the watching world," he told a news conference in London on Thursday. Under Iran's strict interpretation of Islamic law, sex before marriage is punishable by 100 lashes, but married offenders are sentenced to death by stoning. The stones used must be large enough to cause the condemned pain, but not sufficient to kill immediately. Ms Ashtiani's lawyer and human rights activists had warned that her execution was imminent, after appeals for clemency were rejected. In May 2006, a criminal court in East Azerbaijan province found Ms Ashtiani guilty of having had an "illicit relationship" with two men following the death of her husband. She was given 99 lashes. But that September, during the trial of a man accused of murdering her husband, another court reopened an adultery case based on events that allegedly took place before her husband died. Despite retracting a confession the she said she had been forced to make under duress, Ms Ashtiani was found guilty.
:)
How kind of them. </sarcasm> Hopefully now they can kick some sense into their foreign policies.
Good boy, Iran! Who wants a USD/Euro biscuit?!
:3:
You win this round civil rights, but I will be back.
One small step forward
But...that's not right! D:< /outrage

From the original thread: Iranian woman to be stoned to death for confessing to adultery after 99 lashes
That's funny, I hear a distinct lack of support for Iran in this thread. Nobody coming and crying their eyes out that we refuse to refuel their jets or trade with them. But I'm sure it will be forgotten again next week when we refuse to refuel their buses.
Does it make you feel good baby
Quite

Bet GunFox's pissed at Iran's new decision.
They won't stop her being stoned to death. She will be more stoned than the Glasgow West End
I also like how they mentioned that they haven't actually spared her from death, only that they aren't going to kill her by stoning. She will still probably get the death penalty, she'll just be killed in a more modern way.
Thread title can be misleading.
Thread title can be misleading.
Especially when the OP is biased or slightly biased in this case.
Especially when the OP is biased or slightly biased in this case.
I'm biased how?
I'm biased how?
Well you are biased.

I doubt they would still though. Would have to wait for further clarification. [editline]05:14PM[/editline]
Well you are biased.
I'm asking how, pertaining to the title.
I'm biased how?
You're in Lebanon, right? Someone told me that. That means you are a TERRORIST I am TERRIFIED
You mean this: Well, we don't know for sure, they announced that she will not be stoned, usually it'd mean that she will not be killed at all or she will. But since it's so up in the air, how about we ask the magic 8-ball. Well that's a shame.
I'm biased how?
Well, you do like Iran more than most people here. I'm not saying it's not justified, but for example I didn't see you saying anything bad about Iran in the previous thread. You really can't claim to be non-biased about Iran.
but for example I didn't see you saying anything bad about Iran in the previous thread.
What?
Fuck the Iranian justice system, that's so fucked up. Notice how I said justice system rather then the geopolitics of Iran.

I was talking about how the title is biased.
Well it's kinda biased because it says the woman will be free of being stoned, but doesn't say what WILL happen to her.
What?
Sorry, I missed that
Well it's kinda biased because it says the woman will be free of being stoned, but doesn't say what WILL happen to her.
So, CNN, BBC, Telegraph, Guardian etc. is biased because they said she is free from stoning in the title and didn't also squeeze in that it is unclear what will happen? [editline]05:57PM[/editline] Yeah right.
Thread title ain't biased. Starpluck being biased is up for debate but this thread is fine.
"But it is not clear whether they have lifted the death sentence against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who has been in prison in Tabriz since 2006." To me this line seems to be the biggest issue still. It doesn't matter if she'll be stoned or not, what matters is if she'll be sentenced to death or not.

Like I said, CNN, BBC and all the other news outlets did the same thing, you can't put that all in a title.
See? I said that they would stop it since there's so much attention, and they did. The part that still concerns me is that it's unclear if the death sentence is still there.
Yeah, she's probably gonna be found shot to death in the middle of a dark alley...
See? I said that they would stop it since there's so much attention, and they did.
Yeah, she's probably gonna be found shot to death in the middle of a dark alley...
Or they could let her go for bonus points?
Or they could let her go for bonus points?
But stealth attacks gain more points than letting her go, silly.
