Amaysim charging its current customers $45 for 5gb of Data, no free social networking and 3G only
Hi everyone, Julian Ogrin here, MD of amaysim.
Most Aussies are heading down a rocky road to bill shock caused by high data use. In fact, we’re wasting a collective $400 million a year in excess mobile usage charges and half of all bill shock is thanks to data1. That’s because included data on many mid-priced mobile plans can be woefully inadequate, setting users up for higher bills time and again.
We’ve found a way to give you one of the best BYO handset deals in Australia and keep you in control of your data usage.
Our solution is a new, even bigger amaysim UNLIMITED.

Basically, semi-smallish telco now going to fuck over its customers with an extra $5, I just switched to this mob and I can really only afford $40/m, now I gotta look elsewhere. Fucking perfect
Australian mobile networks seem to be getting worse and worse.
I'm on Vaya, paying $29 a month for unlimited texts, calls, MSS along with $100 worth of international roaming. Along with 4GB of data.
Now their highest plan is $57 with similar to what I have, yet 3GB of data instead.
It's pretty dumb how the prices have gone up, yet the data allowances for mobile plans are going down.

I don't see that offer with vaya unless my eyes are closed
Don't know what to do, Aldi mobile, Boost, Lebara Mobile, Lycamobile or Vaya or something else I'm yet to discover

They used to have it, but they don't anymore. Unless you got it before they got rid of it.
Join us North Americans in prayer the French buy one of your telecoms.

tell that rich French bastard to get his ass over to the land down under and literally destroy every telco in this Country
I guarantee you that if they offered a $20 plan where you got free calls and text and 20gb of data with that data slowing down when you peaked it, everyone would jump onto it
There should be a comprehensive free education regarding what data is, and how it works for those who have no understanding (funded by state/federal govt.).
People are signing up for contracts, and seeing these huge 'jiggabitez' numbers, ignorantly not watching their usage, then screaming bloody murder when they get the bill.
As far as Amaysim goes, I cannot wait to see the class action law suit regarding them changing the contracted amount.
They may have had a clause regarding them being able to change things at a whim, but I reckon Australian consumer law, and the ACCC will have something to say about it.
Hi Timothy, when making any changes that will directly affect our customers we make sure we talk with all the necessary third parties involved such as the Teleco Ombudsman.
We’ve looked to give our customers as much notice as possible before the changes come into effect on the 1st of September.
The good thing is that if you’re not happy with amaysim there’s no long-term contract to lock you in or any cancellation fees.
We understand these changes may not benefit everyone in the same way, so if you do not wish to renew with the new product, you simply need to text STOP UNLIMITED to 568 and the auto renewal will be stopped.
If you need to discuss this further, feel free to shoot us an email to social@amaysim.com.au.
It will have to be consider unfair under the ACL before anything would happen. Simply being a unilateral contract doesn't make it unfair under the ACL, however, most (if not all) contracts have the capacity to unilaterally vary the terms of the contract with warning.
In this case, all amaysim have to do is give people the chance to leave the contract, and everything should be lovely once again.

Sounds reasonable, albeit dickish.
That said, I don't know why people complain so much about our plans. I honestly think we have a good choice of networks and a good choice of plans with decent value, especially compared to America.
$45 a month can get you unlimited phone calls, messages, voicemail, etc on the Optus network with 2GB and 4G.
Or $40 a month for unlimited phone calls, messages etc, with 2GB of data on the Telstra 3G network with Boost.
It's hundreds of times better compared to what it used to be.
For a while though, you could get a reseller plan that gave you access to a ridiculous plan of ridiculous value, like $30 for unlimited on Optus or Telstra. The networks realised a that it was a mistake for them and are winding those plans up.

Well the new terms / plans don't come in until September 1st, so they've given you plenty of time to get your ducks in order if you don't want to pay an extra $5 to continue the service.
Reading these threads makes me so happy with the options for Media services in the UK.
At least we get good value, no matter what you say about coverage etc.
Is Boost Mobile good value because I'm really liking how they're on the Telstra network but I don't know if I could live with 2gb
Then again I did quite well sitting on 1.2gb most times

Yeah, stuff like this makes me feel really lucky with the plan I have for my phone now.

Vaya powerplan 18, 1.5gb data. Works for me and I use 4G a fair bit away from wifi.
Only downside is Optus network isnt as stable as Telstra, but seems to be improving a lot.
That's a scam? they raised our bill by $50 and we yelled bloody murder at them until it was pulled down again.
if there was pricing like that in America, I'd be damn happy.
I bet your 3g isn't running off of a blob T1's, either.

Harder to cover merica as not everyone lives on one coast.
[editline]6th August 2014[/editline]
people from NT WA and SA don't exist
It's harder to cover Australia because 98% of our country is fucking desert

Funny that you mention that, as there was a class action lawsuit regarding phone coverage settled not long back..

Sure it was not Telstra rather than a class action?

Class action lawsuits are fairly rare in Australia.

Telstra sued Optus due to Optus' advertising campaign, and was found by the court to be misleading under the ACL.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of!
Are you kidding me, people complain that, thats too expensive? In Canada I pay $30 for 1 gb of data on 3g alone...
I pay 5 dollars more for the same thing... and thats considered cheap among my friends.
I pay 5 dollars more for the same thing... and thats considered cheap among my friends.
You have to understand that value like this doesn't come across here much, so when I heard of this plan I jumped on it when my time with Optus was up, I was super happy to fork out $39.90 for what I was getting and was hoping to be with them for a long time
Now after 6 days I have to consider finding someone else to go with because I simply can't afford that much and I'm getting so little, I'd much rather if they made it fucking optional but nope
Pretty lucky to be in the UK. Pretty good choice but the "contract" (can cancel anytime with a months notice) is £12 per month 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1gig download. Only let down is they have no real technical support, it is "community run" so you need to go to a forum and ask there rather than talking to some guy in the far east somewhere.
You should all move to the UK free healthcare and cheap phone bills.

What network you with? I get that same package on Giffgaff for £10 a month

Going to England next year actually, gonna buy a sweat new tracksuit before I go there and say innit whenever possible
What network you with? I get that same package on Giffgaff for £10 a month
Giffgaff!
There were 2, one for 10 one for 12. We might have different ones, they were very similar but the more expensive one has less minutes but double the data.
I'm probably not remember what I'm getting tbh.
The £12 one has Unlimited data and SMS but less minutes
The £10 has what you said: 500 mins, unlimited texts, 1gb data :)
After researching for a while, for As You Go customers I recommend porting to Aldi. It's cheaper by a couple cents on texts and calls, no flagfall and 365 day expiry. The network is different but it's supposed to be about the same as Optus coverage (Telstra, but on a restricted version).
