I know some people know of The Protomen here on FP - but not enough. Here's some info from wikipedia: [release]The Protomen is an American rock band best known for composing original concept albums based on the popular video game series Mega Man.[1] The Protomen have achieved a cult following[2] thanks, in part, to an active and vocal internet fan base, intensely theatrical live performances, and a heavy touring regimen. In short, it's a band from Nashville that writes Rock Operas about Mega Man. The Protomen's work is inspired by the first six NES Mega Man games.[1] This franchise has an existing storyline featured in the games, manga, and anime; however, The Protomen have concocted a dark and dystopian version of the game's underlying world. The group is generally disinterested in concerns of making their story adhere to the original. Instead, they view the games as a jumping-off point for the story they want to tell, and have borrowed surface attributes of some characters while heavily altering their histories and functions. The group has stated they intend to make a three-part story. Two of the parts are complete. The third is currently in outline form. The overall story as envisioned by the group is tragic, and they "don't really expect it to end well for humanity." [8] Act I (The Protomen) [/release] They only have two albums. The Protomen [release]The eponymous first album which sounds like low-fi rock - sort of like Meatloaf. The Protomen is the debut album release by indie rock band The Protomen. It is a rock opera loosely based on the Mega Man video game series, and the first volume of a planned series of albums on this theme. The follow-up, Act II: The Father Of Death, was released on September 8, 2009.[/release] Act II: The Father of Death [release]Act II: The Father of Death is the second album by indie rock band The Protomen, and the follow-up to the band's self-titled debut. The album also revisits the Mega Man-inspired rock opera concept from the band's first album, and functions as a prequel to the first release, focusing on the relationship between Thomas Light and Albert Wily before Wily's takeover of the city that functions as the story's primary setting.[/release] Musics: While they write songs based on a video game, does not mean they sound video gamey at all and can totally stand alone. Try 'em out.
At first I was skeptical because I was expecting something nerd/parody-esque, but then I listened to them and it was fucking awesome. Also first half of Act II > Second half of Act II
I really like the second half. Panther's voice and the way he words things is craaaaazy.
They're gonna be at PAX East!
I hate his voice. Don't like that type of singing at all.
Well, it's a character. Comes with the whole Rock Opera business.
I do really hope to see them in person someday soon. I absolutely love this band ever since I accidentally listened to one of their songs.
The Official Protomen Documentary is being made! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/788868065/the-official-protomen-documentary
I love their logo.
As do I, it's very well thought.
These dudes are sick as hell
What kind of maaan builds a machiiine to kill a giiirl <3 The Protomen
Dude, my ex-step dad produced this bands album. The studio is even in my house! Crazy stuff man, crazy stuff.
Craaaaaaazy! You should ask him about ACT III, if he's producing it.
The documentary's goal was reached within 10 hours. It was also doubled in 24 hours. It was tripled in 72 hours. Jesus christ!
This band is p fucking cool. A good friend showed me the song Unrest In the House of Light and I was hooked after that.
Craaaaaaazy! You should ask him about ACT III, if he's producing it.
Haha yeah dude I hear them doing guitar and drums n shit
I got to see them live last month, they played all of act II and parts of the first album. Shit was tight!
I thought the first album was better than the second but the second was still great.
my only complaint about the first album is some of it sounded like Panther was deep throating the mic.
I didn't hear that.
I like both albums. The first one seemed more gritty and had chiptunes in it where as Act II was smooth and beautiful.
Protomen.com goes to Capcom-unity now.....oh god
Saw them live at Comicon a few months back after a Mega Ran performance. Pretty legit. Wish I coulda stayed for the entire show.
It's not for me. Was it actually? When I read that on /v/, I just assumed it was a bunch of samefag trolls.
It happened. And still is apparently. It was rumored back in feb of this year that they got sued by capcom.
It happened. And still is apparently. It was rumored back in feb of this year that they got sued by capcom.
If that's true, what the fuck, Capcom.
I thought the lawsuit was fake?
It was
Why would Capcom sue them if they hire them to preform for them at events like comicon?
