• How does one achieve a productive mood and maintain it?

I have a problem. This problem is laziness, I have trouble doing things besides playing video games and generally wasting large amounts of time screwing around on the internet. There are always plenty of things I want and need to do: several books I have yet to read, ideas I want to bring to life in the form of writing, schoolwork to do, and general life skills I need to improve. There are plenty of girls in my school I have yet to ask out, a ton of area in my city I am yet to explore. These are all things that I long to do yet I can only do them when I'm in the proper mood. What I'd like to know is how to get into this mood. What inspired me to make this thread is currently being in said mood. I'm not sure if I can put the feeling in to words but I'll try. It feels like I just put a ton of adderall, coffee, Red Bull, and pure music in to a blender. My chest is tingling, there are butterflies in my stomach, and I have a feeling that can only be described as an excess of energy. I feel as if I can do anything; climb the tallest tower, learn a second language, conquer the world, actually finish that fucking essay, and live my life to it's fullest. What I ask you, Facepunch, is how do I achieve this amazing feeling? It comes and goes but without reason and usually doesn't bother to stay the night. If anyone has such knowledge I would love to hear it. Writing this felt really damn good for some reason. Edit:I think music may have something to do with it. When listening to fast paced music with drums I get a noticeably large boost in creativity. Adderall
I just cleaned my dorm and felt nice and a little bit happier because of it
Adderol
Without the use of drugs.
autism or you know, you could just remove the distractions
I get really creative late at night for some reason. I sit with Hammer open all day with no idea what to make but when it gets late I start making awesome stuff.
autism or you know, you could just remove the distractions
I'm the kind of person who if removed from distractions will just make more.
I'm the kind of person who if removed from distractions will just make more.
well then stop drinking so much red bull contrary to popular belief it doesn't give you wings and just makes you hyperactive.
There are plenty of girls in my school I have yet to ask out, a ton of area in my city I am yet to explore.
Get outside and make an attempt. A girlfriend can solve your problems. There are many things you want to do, but you seem to choose to be lazy as you resort to energy drinks and video games. Just do it.
Drugs keep your mood ok.
Without the use of drugs.
adderall
Take a nap, and worry about it later. That occasionally works sometimes.
Drugs keep your mood ok.
Drugs never make anything ok, it only makes it worse. Drugs are superficial happiness giving that feeling good feeling but really you are depressed inside.
amphetamines
Drugs never make anything ok, it only makes it worse. i solve it like you, OP. headphones + fast paced music + high volume = oh shit im doing productive shit
masturbation all day erry day
Find a thing you like to do. You could also try to get into the productive mood just by doing some moderately exhausting work so you get high on endorphins released into your body.
masturbation all day erry day
I read somewhere that apparently masturbating too much brings your testosterone levels down enough to where you aren't as productive, and waiting a week (basically only doing it on say.. a saturday) allows your mind to be productive during the week. But I don't understand it. I'd just end up thinking about sex all day and be fucked.
I just get on with it, tbh.
But I don't understand it. I'd just end up thinking about sex all day and be fucked.
hah i could wank 20 times a day and still have that problem
Drugs never make anything ok, it only makes it worse. Drugs are superficial happiness giving that feeling good feeling but really you are depressed inside.
What if prescribed?
I don't know if it counts, but I notice my productivity goes down a heck of a lot when I'm single. The feeling of love, and motivation you get really helps you to accomplish stuff. When I was with my girlfriend back in 2008 I learned PHP in a matter of days just out of motivation caused by her, right now I'm single and I'm struggling to learn C++ correctly, mostly because I just get bored and decide to play a game instead. Chocolate can also replicate the feeling of being in love though I wouldn't really recommend it. I also noticed when I was at college that I would do my work because all the distractions where back at home. Once I'd completed my work I'd either talk to my friends if they where nearby, or I'd read a few articles on wikipedia.
You have to find something you like and is good at, that will give you motivation to continue. That works for me at least
don't wank for a week
Recently I just helped out one of my friends who goes to university write an essay for psychology. He had absolutely no idea what to write, he kept procrastinating until the night before his deadline and started becoming physically sick with worry over his dilemna. The more he worried about it, the worse it got until it got to the point where he literally had a panic attack. I myself am studying Media. I know a bit about psychology, but not the exact field of which his essay was themed. What I do know about, is the power of positive thought. I was talking to him over steam when this happened and felt extemely concerned, because from what I remember of this person; he was extremely academic and hard working. I went to high school with the guy and he was always the first to hand in work and assigments but he explained that with the distractions offered by university life, it had become too easy to procrastinate and he had adopted the typical student mantra of "drink first, work later" I offered him a single piece of advice: The only way to solve a problem, is to face it head on. Putting it off only makes the problem worse. If you feel you lack motivation, then the only person that can motivate you is yourself. It takes a degree of maturity to put aside having fun for the sake of wasting time, to actually do something constructive. Just think to yourself, if you sit here playing games and circle jerking for the next 2 years, where are you going to get? The best solution to maintain motivation is to conquer 1 task per day. Make a list of things that you want to do, and start checking them off the list. Prioritise the list in order of realism. Which task is easier to complete? From the examples you have put in the OP I have come up with this: Day1: Begin Reading "Insert book name here" (Read at least a page per day) Day2: Visit "Insert place-name here" Day3: Write one page Once you have been therough this micro-list, after a few days you can contract several items into one day. I can tell you from experience, that by conquering the smaller tasks first, the more difficult tasks become much easier. Like talking to girls. After each day you will feel more confident, you will feel like you are actually changing something and what's more people will notice the difference which in turn will raise your self esteem which also in turn will make you more productive. It really is as easy as getting off your arse, and starting to change your life. Now. If you are serious about this, then get off the computer and begin. Don't even touch the computer again until you've ticked off everything on the list. Oh, and my friend who was panicking over the essay? I met him at a local pub last night. He finished the essay and handed it in on time. He thanked me for the advice and said that in the future, rather than waiting until the last minute, he will write his assignments on the first day that they are issued. It is easier to change your life than you presume. It just takes a lot of willpower and a mature attitude. Good luck
Fill up your mood bars, that helps.
Home is worst place to work, you got your pc, tv, fridge full of food etc. and you think oh ill just watch that 1 show on tv, play that game for 15mins or have a quick snack and then you get lazy.
I'm in the same position, Due to spinal injuries I got in high school I had to stay home the past 3 years. Now it's a bit more manageable, but in these 3 years I've gotten so lazy that I can't do anything other than play games, or exercise. Yes, exercise, I can instantly get motivated if the weather is good, so I can run, swim, bike, go to the gym, etc. But any kind of studying is impossible to focus on.
Fap before doing anything.
