A mid-morning stroll in downtown San Rafael nearly turned disastrous when a 93-year-old woman drove backward down a sidewalk, narrowly missing two employees and a dog from Guide Dogs for the Blind.
"It was just an unbelievable sight to see something going backwards, barreling down the sidewalk," said Todd Jurek, a training supervisor for Guide Dogs for the Blind. He quickly herded the fellow employee and dog out of harm's way when he noticed the dog jerk its head to look behind them.
The dramatic scene, captured on video by a private security camera mounted on a nearby building, can be viewed at www.marinij.com.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, when
How did the driver even manage to do that

93 years old woman.
Past a certain age, driving should be illegal.

Not illegal, more so, tested every year on driving skills.
I'm sorry but the dog didn't do shit. The guy behind them was nice enough to push them around the corner. There's sensationalist, then there's misleading. I was expecting the dog to pull at the leash or something just in time
The dog looked over just a hair quicker then the guys though, which is pretty neat. I wonder what would have happened if the guy wasn't there.

aka, the guy (who was with the woman and dog, not some random) noticed the dog jerk it's head in response to the sound, and in result also turned
if the dog hadn't turned it's head, and he wasn't a supervisor for guide dogs (aka trained to notice the signs guide dogs show), they probably wouldn't have noticed until it was too late
What did the dog do? 0.o
Breaking News: Dog Turns Head
If the dog hadn't spotted the car, the trainer wouldn't have seen it or would have seen have too late. That's why the title is justified.
That dog just straight up turns around like 'wut'
nevermind about the dog, wouldnt a car running in reverse and going against a fucking building do a shitton a noise?

She was probably looking for country kitchen buffet
ok I can imagine going in reverse instead of forward
but down a sidewalk? and going that far? I know she was 93 but like good lord, that takes some extreme negligence to not notice you're on a sidewalk, going backwards, and not do anything about it
My grandfather is still driving at the age of 87. My family has tried to take the car away from him but with no luck. One day he got a red light camera ticket in the mail. For those of you who don't know, they usually come with a video to see your offense. The video just showed him completely blowing a red light in a city street, not even hesitating or slowing one bit at around 40mph. He apparently didn't even see it.
And that's why the elderly should either be retested every year for their driving skills or not allowed to drive, at least in urban areas of the country.

It's true, tho, that if the dog already was with someone blind, they would both get steamrolled. The dog did notice the car but stared at it and didn't even budge until the person noticed the car.

watch for the clip looking at the car, it was parallel parked and she was about to take off. Probably slipped or mistook the gas pedal for the brake, and couldn't react fast enough when it went flying in reverse instead of holding in place like you'd expect the brake to do when you give it full pressure
this is why you always see stories of new driver teens plowing a car through a garage, they start moving the wrong direction, freak out and try slamming the brake, but hit the gas instead
