Girl Didn’t Remove Contact Lenses For Six Months, Went Blind After Bug Ate Eyeballs
Lian Kao is a 23-year-old Taiwanese student who became blind from a totally preventable situation. Lian wore a pair of disposable contact lenses for six month without ever removing them even once, according to a report in The Daily Mail.
As a result, a microscopic bug was able to grow in the space between the lens and the cornea and eventually devoured the surface of the eyeball. Extraordinarily, she never removed the lenses for cleaning at any time during the six months.
Apart from regular cleaning, lenses are supposed to be removed when swimming or washing and should ideally not be worn for more than eight hours a day.
Kao did not follow these instructions, and when they removed the lenses, doctors were horrified to discover that the eye surface had been literally eaten away by the tiny amoeba trapped underneath.
That's fucking horrifying. Jesus christ. This is my worst nightmare when wearing contacts.
I can't imagine wearing contact lenses for anywhere near that long anyway, they get uncomfortable after 8 hours.

Horrifying but only slightly less horrifying than what I thought based on the title.
talk about nightmare fuel poor thing too.
Holy fuck, waking up must've been a pain in the ass. I remember back when I wore contacts, if I forgot to remove the before sleep, my eyes would hurt all day.
brb changing contacts
Glasses masterrace amirite
Read article, removed lenses, went through a very thorough cleaning.
I usually wear my lenses for about 2 months when they usually become useless on their own, but I wear contacts that are designed to "breathe" and not become as dry when you wear it while sleeping, and to last about a month. How the flying fuck do you manage to go 6 months with disposable contacts?
I wear 1-month disposable contacts and i really can't believe how she went 6 months straights without removing them even once. Mine start getting a little bit annoying after 1 week if i don't remove and clean them.
I'm kinda glad to be a glasses wearer. :v:
I'm glad I have perfect vision. Contacts and glasses sound like such a pain in the ass.
pfft l2 read without glasses nerds

Glasses aren't even that much of a hassle to use though. Contacts are probably much more difficult to deal with.

Nah man, contacts are the shit. Feels like you're wearing nothing at all, but you can see perfectly, and keep perfect peripheral vision, and no bulkyness on yo face.
Just need to be good with hygiene.
Not even a hassle, poke your eyes once in the morning and once in the evening and give em a little clean and you're good.
I remember when I wore contacts as a kid for about a year. I was super afraid they would get stuck behind my eyes if I screwed up putting them on or taking them off. Eventually I stopped wearing them though because my eyes that get dry super fast normally would dry out even faster with them on (and because I was afraid of them.) Wearing glasses is infinitely better than putting some plastic lenses on your eyes.
i have no idea how that can even happen. now and then i fall asleep with my contacts still in and when i wake up my eyelids have fused together and my eyes hurt all morning.
how can someone stand that? especially when it's easy to just take them out and put on a pair of glasses, or put some fresh lenses in...
This is why I wear bizarro-contacts that you wear at night and take out in the morning for superior vision.

I'd like to have good enough vision without glasses, although I look a lot lot better with glasses so there's that.
Some of my friends even wear lens-less glasses because they look better that way :v:

I used to like wearing glasses, but honestly I also had a lot of problems with them. They require constant cleaning because they very easily get smudged, they leave small marks on my nose when I wear them for too long, they narrow down my peripheral vision, and most annoyingly they slide down when I look downwards which was a major deal-breaker for me when I was studying to become a welder.
I love my current contacts, because they make me feel like I don't have any problems with my vision at all. They're designed to allow in more air than normal contacts, so I can sleep with them and my eyes won't become as dry and irritated as with normal contacts when I wake up. Most of the time, I don't even remember that they're there.

Oh god, I have the day & night contact lenses you can wear for 30 days before taking out and changing. Sometimes I go over 30 days... Never again.
I'm glad my eyesight fixed itself.
It literally did.
I wore glasses for many years, then changed to contact lenses and after ~two years with lenses, I could see fine without them for some reason.
