Main event hype train

Main card
Heavyweight Championship bout: Brock Lesnar (c) vs Shane Carwin
Middleweight bout: Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben
Welterweight bout: Chris Lytle vs. Matt Brown
Light Heavyweight bout: Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar
Lightweight bout: George Sotiropoulos vs. Kurt Pellegrino
Preliminary card (Spike TV)
Heavyweight bout: Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Light Heavyweight bout: Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero
Preliminary card
Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic
Middleweight bout: Gerald Harris vs. Dave Branch
Welterweight bout: Daniel Roberts vs. Forrest Petz
Heavyweight bout: Jon Madsen vs. Karlos Vemola
With Fedor losing at Strikeforce, the main event stakes got raised even higher. Either Carwin or Lesnar will become without a doubt the current top Heavyweight, and if Lesnar wins I think we'll see him creep up on some top P4P lists as well (not #1 though). Although it is an arbitrary ranking system I'm sure it is both in their minds right now.
What are your main-event picks? Mine are:
Lesnar
Leben
Lytle
Pellegrino
Soszynski
I'm going to see this on Saturday with a few friends.
I think Carwin is going to win, Lesnar has to fall off his throne eventually. Even though Carwin hasn't fought anybody who can wrestle like Lesnar.

Well if there is a time to beat Lesnar, now is it. He is going to have some ring-rust and he can't rely on pure muscle power in this fight as well. I'd say it's a 60:40 in favour of Lesnar, but never count Carwin out.
Shane Carwin will knock Brock Lesnar out.
lesnar has always been lackluster in technique, imo he won't have much of a chance here
Lesnar moves funny. It's hilarious.
Cain at least seems fluid and moves with considerable grace despite his size.
Hope Lesnar loses, and there's a lot of good suprising fight cards that night.

Lesnar by TKO
Leben by KO/TKO
No idea about Lytle vs Brown
Bonnar by TKO/Decision
Pellegrino by TKO/Decision
I'm pulling the win methods out of my ass, i don't think there's many KO's on that card, but alot of stoppages, especially Lesnar, Leben and Bonnar.
I think Leben with either KO or TKO Akiyama, that should be a good fight.
I think Lesnar is going to win by stoppage after some good stand up then taking it to the mat with some ground and pound. That being said, i'm not writing carwin off, this is like someone said 60:40 for Lesnar atm, for me anyway.
Soszynski vs Bonnar will be another good fight, i think Bonnar will edge it and get a stoppage or Decision, i dunno i just don't think Soszynski will be able to beat him inside 3 rounds. Same for Pellegrino vs Sotiropoulos.
I'll probably get every prediction wrong but meh, :P should be awesome to watch!
if anyone has a stream hit me up in a pm
why is it always the "biggest event" when it comes to stuff like this...

LOL.
Seriously mang?
Leben has been a gatekeeper for some time now. While he does have knockout power, he's never evolved. At all. He also drinks like a fish and doesn't take his training camps seriously, both incredibly bad traits in a professional fighter.
He has no chance against Akiyama, who is superior to Leben in both striking and ground game.
As for Bonnar- Sosz, I don't think it will be a good fight at all. Sosz is okay, but Bonnar is another gatekeeper who never evolved since TUF1 and is rapidly going towards getting a boot from the UFC. It will be a short sloppy brawl followd by Sosz taking it to the ground and applying a less than smooth submission.

Leben will win, i'm confident of that, i think even after the things you claim, his striking is better, and Akiyama will come after him and get caught. As for Bonnar / Sosz i agree it won't be an amazingly pretty fight but like i said i expect Bonnar to win it.
I'm sticking to my guns and i'm willing to be very wrong, thats why i enjoy UFC.
Fuck my grandparents satellite tv, fucking storms blocking satellite reception, anyone have a stream :(
Carwin is going to win. I want him to beat Lesnar.
Anyone know of a stream? PM me, thanks. Oh, and Lesnar is going to fucking dominate.
holy shit. Bonnar vs Soszynski II is intense
well my picks have been shit so far.
Would love to see Bonnar vs Soszynski III sometime
Lesnar just got his face pounded for 4 minutes
Lesnar just got his face pounded for 4 minutes
Lesnar is tough as hell. I'm glad the ref didn't stop it.
Fuck, Carwin tapped
Holy shit, did not see that coming.
I am so fucking pissed right now. I was tired of Brock's mocking of other people and I thought hopefully that he would learn his lesson tonight.

It's just a gimmick he uses to help sell fights. It works. He's actually pretty nice.

Arguing picks is one of the finer points of watching combat sports.
[sp]Ahhh that was great, I thought Lesnar was going to lose but he pulled it together. [/sp]
Damn too short..
What the fffuccck...
Leben submits Akiyama? Somebody wake me up and tell me it's a bad dream.
On another note however, Fuck the UFC. Fucking assholes, they should've stopped Carwin- Lesnar in the first round when Carwin had lesnar folded up in the corner like a bitch. Lesnar was NOT intelligently defending himself, he was offering no offense. Any other fight would've been stopped, but no, golden goose Lesnar gets leeway.

1) Referees are part of the Nevada Athletic Commission not the UFC
2) Lesnar was defending himself. Watch the fight again. Every time it looked like he was taking too many hits he would start moving and blocking, sometimes even hitting.
3) Referees do actually account for toughness of some people. If someone is known to be tough as nails, they'll actually let that person take a few more hits than someone who isn't as known for taking too many hits and recovering.
The idea of stopping the fight is to protect the other fighter when they have no chance of recovering or winning. It was clear that Lesnar weathered the storm and was rather fine after all was said and done. I hate to sound like a Lesnar super-fan because I'm not, at all, but facts are facts.

Number 3 just proves why the UFC plays favoritism for an extra dollar. The UFC wants to change the public perception of MMA, yet they still allow this shit to happen. MMA is a sport, not a bar brawl, when you put down rules, they should apply equally to ALL contestants, otherwise how is it different when someone cheats to gain an unfair advantage?
Accounting for the perceived "toughness" of a particular fighter is ridiculous. Anyone else in a similar position and they would've stopped the fight, as they have done before.
Referee's are apart of the Nevada Athletic Commission, yes. Pride , Dream and K1 refs in Japan were also part of a separate Athletic Commission, that doesn't mean shady shit wasn't influenced by the big wigs in all those organizations.
carwin got owned.

I got mostly who wins right, but not the methods.
Lesnar won, Leben won, Bonnar won, but Pellegrino lost, 3/4 aint bad. I honestly though Lesnar would win by stoppage, a submission was a big surprise.
Leben aswell with the submission, i just expected him to go out throwing bombs. Bonnar i got spot on i think, just figured he had enough power to win by decision or the TKO, which he got. Pellegrino fuck you.
Great card. Enjoyed it.

Don't be sour because you picked wrong :P
The referee is the only one who makes the decision, if Carwin was hitting Brock hard enough he would have KO'd him, Brock was defending himself and he wasn't letting Carwin just punch him endlessly. As long as he makes intelligent defence against punches then he is fine to continue, and that's what he did for me. I've seen fights get stopped too early because the referee jumped in too quickly and the other fighter was fine, there needs to be a balance, in heavyweight matches your going to let them slug a bit longer just because they're heavyweights.
Yeah sure some heavyweights might have glass jaws but most (and i say most not all) heavyweights can trade and take bombs and not be as badly hurt as a lighter fighter. I think alot of UFC Heavyweights are more geared towards stand up and wrestling, and less about BJJ, Submissions, head kicks, muay thai etc etc, so naturally their sparring is geared towards stand up, trading, and working from your back or from mount to finish fights or to protect yourself. How often do you see a heavyweight catch a flying armbar on another? Rarely if ever, where as it's more common for Submissions and BJJ/Muay Thai in lighter weight divisions.
My whole point it, i think (and this is my opinion) that on the whole heavyweights can take more shots than other weight classes, on average, and so they need to be allowed to fight back for a little longer. Yes Carwin rocked him, but he hadn't hurt Brock so badly, and i'm with the referee.
Dam long and stupid post that probably won't make sense but fuck it, i agree with the ref, and Heavyweights need more time until a referee steps in.
