A hillwalker who survived after plunging about 800ft from a cliff edge in the Cairngorms has told BBC Scotland he feels lucky to be alive.
Ollie Daniel, 25, fell through snow while walking in the area of Coire Sputan Dearg on Sunday.
A major rescue operation saw him airlifted to safety. His injuries included nine broken ribs.
Mr Daniel, of Cambridge, thanked the rescue teams - and vowed to return to the mountains.
He had been with two other men - including his father.
Speaking to BBC Scotland at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Mr Daniel said: "We were navigating in near zero visibility in a white-out.
"As I was navigating I put my foot out and onto nothing, and fell down about 800ft of sheer cliff.
"You figure you have had it."
I can't even fucking imagine. I recognize the feeling from how he describes it as putting his foot out onto nothing. I've done it plenty of times walking around in the dark and stepping out not knowing I was on a step, and expecting to keep moving forward only to feel the rush of adrenaline. This feeling is like how he described it x2000
He fell 243 meters deep and survive. Some people died from a short fall less than 10 meters but to survive a 100 storeys fall like that is incredibly lucky
Glad he lived. It's terrifiying falling from a small height, so I can't imagine how he must have felt.

Any falls above 5 meters in height is terrifiying to anyone.

not to skydivers
Was it a straight 800ft drop? Or did he roll down most of the way.
Regardless, amazingly lucky.
He described sections of sliding, as well as free-falling.

Mr Daniel has vowed to return to the mountains
"There was one really big hit, that seems to have done most of the damage," he said.
"It felt like I was falling for quite a long time before it stopped."
Slid and rolled with some sections of falling.
He'd be dead if it was a straight 800 foot drop.

not necesarily there have been a few people who have actually survived falls of around 14000 feet while skydiving, their parachute did not launch
I'm speechless, that's incredible that he survived that. he sure got a story to tell his friends now
There was a dude who survived being flung out of a tornado. The human body is incredibly resistant to impact so long as it goes limp. A lot of impact damage occurs when you tense up your muscles.

I heard about babies surviving car crashes the same way, even when flung through the windshield.

Seems like "survived x foot drop" articles are almost always about people who actually tumbled down a steep hill or something.

Some noteworthy freefalls.
Completely grateful of being alive [after falling 22,000 feet] he smoked a cigarette, before even getting up. He thought about what had just happened to him.
Drunk people are also more likely to survive car crashes. Granted, they're more likely to get in them too, so drinking and driving isn't safe, but; y'know, if you're kinda mid-crash and haven't hit the tree yet, it's time to chug for your life.
My dad knows a guy who survived a car rolling over him because he was unconscious and his body was relaxed. The doctors said the car would have destroyed his rib cage if he was awake.

Speak for yourself, I jumped out a plane and didn't shit my pants.
this this is kinda like when I am walking down the stairs and expect there to be a step at the bottom but there's just a drop and almost have a heart attack
I've heard that it's not really the impact of the crash that kills people when in a car collision or falling, it's their organs being ripped from their appropriate positions due to inertia.
