State Sen. Leland Yee, who authored the 2005 California bill to ban sales of ultra-violent video games only to have the Supreme Court rule it unconstitutional, still vehemently believes the issue is a "public health matter."
"Gamers have got to just quiet down," Yee, D-San Francisco, said in an interview Tuesday. "Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry's lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest."
What a cunt.
You're right, people who know enough about a topic to talk about it with authority should just shut up and let the grown ups talk.
Politicians have no credibility in the debate on whether politicians are retarded
Senile old man
Oh shut up you. The only people that have any business discussing games are the people who play them. It is YOU who has no credibility in this debate, not us.
What a cunt.

Oh wow
"This is about their self-interest."
Take a look in the fucking mirror before you go dismissing people based on their self-interests.
The irony is painful.
This is about their self-interest.
Yes, because god forbid we defend our interests, right?
Seriously, the guy sounds like a saturday morning cartoon villain.

Just can't learn to quit, eh?
They took our games.
This guy is crazy as the people trying to ban magazines.
I still dont get it why people who have no idea what happens, how things work, etc are in the positions to control them.
Oh wait, politics..
What are examples of "ultra" violent video games?
The phrase seems a bit of a hyperbole rather than an actual term for games that have violence, and if anything games allow people to further distinguish the differene between fact & fiction in my eyes. These old timers don't seem to know much about the subject of video games and the connotation is that they're using the numerous recent shootings as "evidence" that these so-called ultra violent video games are the cause of this.
If it was unconstitutional in 2005, what makes him think it's going to be constitutional now?

It makes you wonder about the type of people we elect when they dismiss all the evidence that suggests the exact opposite of their point of view.

...Er, does being a gamer make you a qualified psychologist? Where can I get my degree?

idiots, thats what
shut the fuck up
...Er, does being a gamer make you a qualified psychologist? Where can I get my degree?
Yeah, you need a degree in psychology to have a valid opinion when it comes to video games and their relationship with violence. Who knew?
Yeah, you need a degree in psychology to have a valid opinion when it comes to video games and their relationship with violence. Who knew?
Especially if you play them nearly every day and still haven't tried to murder anybody.
wow its like little kids that argue and when one of them can't win he just yells shut up i cant hear you
Especially if you play them nearly every day and still haven't tried to murder anybody.
Yeah, absolutely. And along his train of thought, psychologists are the only ones who can determine if rape victims are actually traumatized or not - firsthand accounts aren't shit if you're scout1!
Senators need to quiet down. Senators have no credibility in this argument. This is all about old men talking out their asses and trying to tell us what we should be allowed to do even when it doesn't harm anyone. This is about personal freedom.
Citizens should be allowed to speak their mind on matters of lawmaking, unless of course they disagree with me, personally. Then they can just fuck off.

I'd say Scribblenauts Unlimited is hyper violent. I mean, what other game let's you feed a live baby to a cannibal or make a child commit suicide?
It's because gamers are the only ones who actually know what they're talking about.
Wow, this is a really fucking dumb remark.
This is like saying that if your a gun owner you cant talk about gun control, or that if you were a holocaust survivor you cant talk about the holocaust.
Seriously, if any group of people needs to listen for "their self interest", its the government from us. They cant just debate about video games with no actual knowledge of the topic from people that actually play the fucking games.
...Er, does being a gamer make you a qualified psychologist? Where can I get my degree?
You don't need a psychology degree to figure out that violent video games do not turn people into serial killers.
Gamers would most likely have no credibility in the argument if gamers were mentally unstable. Which gamers aren't.
This is stupid.
You're right, people who know enough about a topic to talk about it with authority should just shut up and let the grown ups talk.
People with very clear bias on a subject shouldn't really be the ones making decisions, even if they are knowledgeable.
The senator is a jackass but he's at least right in that gamers aren't the people to be making this decision, that would fall to informed psychologists and criminologists who don't have a personal stake in the issue.
