How does this work?
With a family that is notorious for hearing loss and born deafness, this is extremely exciting for me.

About 55 seconds in it has an animation. I'm still not 100% sure how it works but give it a shot. (If your eardrum doesn't move, how do you hear anything?)

Can't watch the video yet so I can't comment on this specific aid, but you don't necessarily have to move the eardrum to hear. It just amplifies the sound. The bones in the skull also transmit sound waves to the inner ear and they can be picked up (which is the basis of some implantable hearing aids).
