UNITED KINGDOM NEWS http://www.metro.co.uk/music/836393-tom-jones-racing-ahead-of-eminem-in-battle-for-no-1-album
The singer's new album Praise & Blame is currently outselling Eminem's LP Recovery, it has been revealed. Recovery has already been number one for four of the last five weeks. After hearing the news that he was in the lead, Jones even suggested a collaboration with the rapper. "It's great to be top of the charts with Eminem, maybe next time we could be top together." If Praise & Blame is at the top of the chart on Sunday the 70-year-old will become the oldest male singer to bag a UK number one album. Bob Dylan currently holds that record.
You would never expect that. A man who had a few hits in several decades, who was never truly as popular as you would've thought him to be. But the man can bellow... even at 70. It is one fantastic album, I suggest you listen to it. It is a Blues, Country, Americana and Gospel kind of album.. something I never expected to hear from Tom Jones. And for those who are closed minded to one type of music taste, I suggest you open your mind... music doesn't have to be about you only. I am not talking just to the stereotypical pop, rock or hiphop lovers. I am talking to each and every person who reads this. Here are a few of my favourites from Praise & Blame. Here is a good thread to give you some inspiration with music from others and myself. :smug: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=941755 There are some fine music lovers on Facepunch, there are most probably a lot more... who haven't yet glimpsed the music section probably due to being afraid of being out-casted if their music isn't liked

That man is an international treasure. All hail to the King, regardless of whether he makes it or not.

Tom Jones is great, I don't listen to him very often, but I'm sure you can forgive me, Akayz. You know that I have a good taste in music.

I just thought I would give this a listen due to his company's boss being pissed at his new direction. I needed to see what the fuss was about. The fuss was that it was fantastic music... I can't stand how music bosses are SO THICK.. they have always been! The boss of motown thought What's Going On by Marvin Gaye wasn't going to sell and fail miserably, even decided to pull it back until he was persuaded not to. :argh: How wrong they were :smug:
Good. The longer he's selling more than Eminem, the better.
Yes, but I don't much approve of the idea of a collaboration :ohdear:
This is great, just ordered it on amazon. Thanks for the tip!
This is great, just ordered it on amazon. Thanks for the tip!
I'm hasty to say that it is the greatest album of the year, but it is by far the most surprising.
Well it's not unusual for him to be loved by anyone [editline]11:12PM[/editline] He is still awesome
Well it's not unusual for him to be loved by anyone
Very good. :golfclap: You're a sexbomb :v:
dang... he's friggin' 70 years old:pipe:
who'd thought that tom jones of all people would discover The White Stripes
Hmm.. The thread seems a bit misleading come to think of it. He has sold 150 million records in his lifetime, thats more than Bob Dylan, Damn
Damn, Tom Jones kicks ass.
Tom Jones is fucking superior. When I was a kid, I loved Sex bomb Great song..
I think the voice is astounding for his age, Bob Dylan sounds great as an old croaker but it is clear that his voice is deminishing compared to Jones who still bellows like he has done for 45 years
good for him
And he did great in Mars Attacks
Cool guy, that Tom Jones.
He came up on my music finals. Not unusual was asked as an unseen work. That's how awesome he really is.
best bond theme ever :smug:
He didn't get the top spot. People still bought Eminem's worst pile of garbage. :v:

And Recovery was hardly his worst CD, not even close. Also, Tom Jones is pretty fucking cool.

Everything he has made previous to Recovery, gets better imo I probably am closed minded when it concerns music that you might prefer more than me, the thing is I put more effort into listening to things worth listening for MY SAKE :v: I have no clue why I listened to Tom Jones' new album, its just the type of person I am.

I appreciate almost all forms of music, but I still don't act like you and pretend everything that I don't like isn't music, or isn't enjoyable for anyone.
It's not unusual, to top, the music chart. :v:
As a music enthusiast, I must say that Tom Jones, while not really my genre (too generically bluesy, at least from what the OP posted), has more talent than most other 'chart topping' acts out there. Like I said though, not really my cup o' tea, but I think he is still a great musician.
I appreciate almost all forms of music
:barf: you talk to me about "super elitists" I respect musicians that are deserve my respect, that have a heart. :smug:
