Hooray for more youtube complaining!
RIP?
hooray for shameless clickbait i feel like if you're doing youtube for the money primarily, rather than entertaining people, you've lost sight of what you originally set out to do and have probably lost your creative spark.
I don't understand why anybody bothers with youtube anymore. There needs to be a youtube killer in the same way Discord killed Skype and Teamspeak

I cant watch the video yet cause in class but the obvious answer to me seemed to be that they should reopen their patreon. Ads are just a flakey source of revenue. Or, they could also supplement youtube with something else like streaming.
Pretty sure they're after the money because if their videos are actually profitable then they can devote more time to it.
this video just makes it look like they couldn't give a shit about youtube anymore and are only in it if they can make some money off it h3h3's quality went noticeably downhill when they started churning out more content in order to get more revenue. it's a shame really.
just had one of my own videos de-monetized by YouTube. it's one thing to watch this whole advertising saga go down from afar, but it was totally wild to have one of my only well-performing videos pulled on my own channel. I'm totally behind a YouTube killer.

This is why you don't put your eggs in someone else's basket. You can't just rely on youtube ads for revenue.
Long story short; They aren't making any money on the main channel anymore Videos on H3H3 are being cut down to one a week instead of 3 a week Focus is being shifted to the second vlog channel H3H3 Podcast is moving to Twitch They're looking in to other opportunities like live tours, Ethan's looking in to stand up comedy It's a big change but it could be good for the channel. One video a week could very well mean their videos are gonna be higher quality. I feel bad for others though. For a lot of people the Youtube dream or even using youtube as a path to other things might very well be dead. This feels like the beginning of a slow exodus off youtube. They're making moves to Twitch, Pewdiepie's doing the same. There could not be a more perfect time for a youtube killer than now. It feels like we're finally, for real, at that point, where the youtubers are legitimately waiting to jump ship.

The one night they just kept getting subs and 10,000 ($100) bit donations.
To be fair, if its your livelihood, you'd probably want to be sure you're getting paid.
my point is though, it wasn't their livelihood when they started out, they made videos out of pure passion/a desire to make people laugh. i understand they've put all of their eggs into the online basket (which is kinda unwise imo) but this video (to me) comes across as really whiny.

There's quite a few even pretty small channels relative to h3h3 (with like 10-100k subs) that are even able to pull a living off of patreon. Especially if they turn on text to speech people will literally just be throwing money at them to get the robot to read a meme

You can do something you love and also be focused on making money out of it as well. Both can be important without one having to be sacrificed for the other. Its more about not having to rely on a secondary website when it should just work.
Fuckin' clickbait as fuck thumbnail. "we're gonna keep making YouTube videos on H3H3Productions, just not at the same frequency. maybe once a week. We're gonna be making more vlogs on Ethan and Hila because its Advertiser friendly, and we're moving the H3 Podcast to Twitch and archiving it to the H3 Podcast YouTube channel" is the gist. No "GOODBYE YOUTUBE!" shit

He has to be making thousands a night at this point.

Their living usually comes from stuff like wedding shoots, school photo shoots, etc. that isn't anywhere near their favorite work, but it's doing that stuff that enables them to get on to what they REALLY enjoy. That's a bit weirdly idealistic of them. Personally I think I'd be giddy with something like patreon and a channel of that size because it'd give me SO much breathing room.

I am VERY skeptical of H3 being successful with stand-up.

I get where they're coming from, Youtube is really shit about that, but at the same time i think the smarter move would be to just use Patreon. They've been trying to get Youtube to knock it off for years now it seems, they're not going to budge.
I am VERY skeptical of H3 being successful with stand-up.
a huge bulk of the best comedy they've produced has been satire, which is something that lends itself well to stand-up. I think he has potential to do well with it
They used to have one, its locked and they dont get money from it because they wanted to be able to just make money off Youtube itself or something along those lines. Also the really bad thing for them is that Youtube actually most likely can't do too much to make ads more profitable, they're hurting too.
I am VERY skeptical of H3 being successful with stand-up.
Ethan seems like he needs a straight man. Its pretty much what Hila is half the time. Him alone? Ehh... I'll wait and see. Him as one half of a duo? Sure sounds like it could work. Since the start of the month, one of their videos was removed (later put back up), and 3/4 of the sketches they did were demonetized. Demonetized for: Blood Fake pee Religion in the title That's a problem. I think H3H3 has been hit and miss lately and they've done some questionable things, but a lot of people are getting fucked by this ridiculous demonetization stuff.
I hope they stream more on twitch, yesterday they had like 11k+ viewers. They gained alot of subscribers and donations there. It was a good show imo.
Whatever you say about youtube. It will not get killed by some respectable youtubers leaving to go to another place. Keep in mind that a large audience uses youtube very simply and don't follow anyone in particular but just want their easy vids.
Youtube is swamped by kids and plenty of regular people who just don't give a fuck about this kind of stuff. And a lot of the older generation has finally embraced youtube like they did Facebook around 2010. That market is the biggest part of youtube and they can easily survive off of keeping the advertisers happy, because they've got enough people to keep watching the ads no matter what they do. It's good for youtubers to get this message out there and ask for change, but pretty much all they are going to be able to do is try a different platform or way to make income. (Open a patreon you dinguses)

You could say almost the exact same thing about Myspace back in the day. Or vine just a couple years ago. Maybe you'll never see the day Youtube.com leads to a 404 outright. Still, every website has it's due date. I really doubt Youtube's the exception, especially because almost every content creator on it is ready to jump ship to a better service. If a good competitor comes out, and you see the big guys start backing it? I believe there will be a LOT of people following.
eCeleb101: don't put your income in one basket. they only make money from youtube and selling shirts with memes on them. The twitch account is too late and they turned off their patreon account for NO REASON. they should have started making long-format goofs on twitch and selling blooper reels for 5$ a month on patreon a LONG time ago.

I encourage them to move to a new platform, but they aren't going to make much of a dent in youtube's revenue. In regards to myspace and vine, they really only appealed to a target age demographic and that stuff usually fails eventually. IMO Vine's whole gimmick was unsustainable and kind of stupid to begin with. Youtubes got a grip on all age bases and it's one of those things like Google where it's ingrained into society at this point. Google also owns youtube, so that's a pretty big backer for any competitor to try and step up against.
They should go back to selling drugs.
