Mary Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, got married to longtime partner Heather Poe Friday. “Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized,” the Cheneys said in a statement. The news was first reported by the Daily Caller, a conservative Web site. “Very happy to announce that as of this morning, Heather and I are legally married (at least in DC),” Cheney wrote on her Facebook page, according to People magazine. “20 years to the day after our first date.” Cheney, 43, a former AOL exec who later moved into political consulting, met Poe, 51, formerly a park ranger, in 1988 while playing ice hockey. They have two children, a boy born in 2007, and a girl born in 2009. They married in Washington, where gay marriage is legal; the couple lives in Northern Virginia. While Cheney has been openly gay since her father was in the George W. Bush administration, her wedding is another sign that gay marriage increasingly lacks the stigma it once had. (Another: David Blakenhorn, who testified against gay marriage in support of California’s Prop 8 in 2008, has written a New York Times op-ed announcing his change of heart). An AP poll released Friday found that 42 percent of respondents oppose gay marriage in their states, 40 percent support it and 15 percent are neutral. Republican opposition to gay marriage remains high — 68 percent disapprove, according to an April Pew poll. Cheney and her father have both been criticized by gay activists for not more forcefully defending gay unions.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/post/mary-cheney-gets-married/2012/06/22/gJQAHbJsvV_blog.html?hpid=z3 A step in the right direction, I'd say. Even Republicans are going to have a hard time defending DOMA now.
i never knew our great darklord of hatred and pain had a daughter!
I always found it fascinating that the Republican Party is so homophobic, except Cheney
I always found it fascinating that the Republican Party is so homophobic, except Cheney
Atleast Cheney hasn't denounced her as his daughter, like a lot of American conservative Republicans would do
Most of the time when articles on gay relationships come up, the couple have been in a committed relationship for years or even decades. Do gays make really good couples or is the media just glossing over the short-lived stuff?

If anything I'd say gay couples are more open with each other though.

I'm sure I'm really late, but when did Google start doing this when you search for gay marriage? EDIT: it's for Gay and Lesbian Pride Month apparently, they do it each year
Good for her, really.
It's probably some sort of disability but I have always insufferable urge to spell his name Dick Chimney.
I always found it fascinating that the Republican Party is so homophobic, except Cheney
Hey, what about Colin Powell?
So is her name 'Heather Poe Friday' or is this another stupid americanism?
I don't really know what Dick Cheney's policy on LGBT are. I always assumed he considered any form of human attachment to be beneath him.
Cheyney was more of a business conservative. He's made a fuck ton of money off of his corruption.
Another happy wedding, even though it threw me off that Cheney's daughter was involved. I guess he really doesn't think its that bad. Sounds like it would be hilarious to see their outrage.
Hey guys, I wonder if this was a shotgun wedding.
