This really makes me sad as I love the gameplay of this game so far... but this is everywhere.
I've never really had anything as bad as the video, maybe I'm just lucky. But still, this P2P shit sucks. The mosty annoying thing is joining games. Matchmaking works like 1/2 the time, gives me this "This game is full" Error. Then find me a game that isn't, you stupid shit, don't take me press the matchmaking button everytime.
When I do get into the game, it's a blast though.
-snip- fixed
p2p is honestly the only thing holding me back from buying it
its a amazing game

I did, autocorrect.

Thanks mods.
You'd think Ubisoft would have the financial resources to get dedicated servers.
they do, but this means bigger profit margin.
Not in the long run, ofc, but in the short run yeah.
Personally I think the way they have the game now is pretty damn good considering I can't recall any instances where I felt like I missed a shot because of "lag" in over 24 hours of play. The only problems really are the matchmaking sometimes being a bit weird and the rare occasion that the game fucks up resyncing.
If your only doubts about the game are connection related, don't let it stop you from buying it IMO. People treat the word P2P like a bad word but I feel like it is well suited for this game.

I've never seen anything like whats happening in the video by the way
They have a dedicated server for single player though.
So stupid

They do? Amazing, cause I've yet to get booted out of MP, but in coop I could barely finish the first mission
by the way, did you know: the tutorial in the first mission is instanced, so players do their thing without seeing eachother. Then it's everything with them both, till the final duel - where one player fights and the other... spectates

No its not, P2P shouldn't be anywhere fucking near a game that has its gameplay resolve around timing and precision, P2P throws that entirely out the window as you can't have any form of compensation and the quality of the connection is not consistent.
Next is how this style of P2P is done, Ubisoft is using the same fucking dumb hybrid P2P system as they did in Siege however its reversed, they use servers for the Lobbies and then P2P HOSTING FOR THE MATCHES, there is absolutely no reason for this other than cost cutting as a game like For Honor would be very stressful on dedicated servers, so instead of bothering actually making the games netcode fair and balanced, they cheapened out and pushed it so that the client do all the leg work of the multiplayer.
The next thing I'll like to add that just pushes more to the Ubisoft is being cheap fucks when it comes to their servers, all their games run off the same dedicated servers they have. Division, Siege, For Honor and Wildlands all run off the same servers in the same small number of datacenters that they've rented out and these servers are so overloaded its stupid, when one game gets a massive influx of traffic it effects all of them, Siege servers went down constantly thanks to the Wildlands and For Honor beta which is a god damn joke, Ubisoft makes more than enough money to be able to actually sort out servers for each game but instead they pack them all together because it makes them the bigger profit margin and we, the consumer have to deal with their shitty executive choices.
Basically P2P has its place for lobbies, not the actual fucking matches, they got it right with Siege so why the fuck For Honor is running the reverse I don't know other than they didn't expect it to last long or get as popular as it has.
They saw the fact its a multiplayer game, meaning they'd have to support it for something like 7 years, which they can't afford to or would want to, so they did PVP because it doesn't require maintenance and will technically last forever.

From what I understand, at least one reason why For Honor uses P2P is so that you are less likely to experience problems due to latency from a dedicated server. Ubisoft can definitely make improvements to how the system works, and while I definitely don't approve half-assing it out the door, I believe Ubisoft will work to improve the game's networking. I believe that because the game works this way is the reason why I've never experienced any moments where I feel like I've missed a shot or a block because of lag.
However, this is not an excuse for how half-assed it sort of works now. Problems with matchmaking sometimes being shaky and the occasional disconnect are serious problems that affect the game. It is entirely reasonable (and probable) to believe Ubi jumped on the opportunity to make this game P2P in order to save money. And if what you said about R6 servers going down because of For Honor and Wildlands is true, that is some serious bullshit.
But like Siege, For Honor is a seriously fun game when it is working good, and it tends to work well a large majority of the time, at least for me. And even though Ubi put this out without fixing these issues before release, they'll probably keep working at it just like they did with Rainbow. It is definitely still shitty for them to release a game and fix it later. Overall, same shitty business decisions by Ubisoft behind what is in my opinion a seriously great game.
I have no problems with the connection. Occasionally someone will leave and the game has to resync, but other than that it's great. I've never felt cheated by lag since I started playing.

Same here really, I have noticed the slight delay somtimes from going to practice mode vs bots to vs players though, find guard breaks 100x easier vs bots.
a issue i have is that picking up a heal boost or any type of heal(wards flask/conq shield heal) will drop my fps from 60+ to the low 20s, it makes the game boarderline unplayable when fighting 1v2.
I honestly can't believe multiplayer AAA games still rely on P2P in 2017.
I refuse to believe those servers are that expensive, that they'd resort to something like this.

Really? I fought Apollyon with my friend.
As far as P2P issues, yeah they're garbage. I play with American friends way too much so that's a steady ping of 190-240 for dedicated servers, shits cray with P2P.
Oooo yeah, I found it odd that it did that.
I don't think I've been able to play in multiplayer for more than a few minutes at a time before me or someone else gets disconnected.
I'm seriously amazed that P2P is still somehow acceptable in games that rely on player reflexes and timing for input. It really shouldn't be, in some cases, it completely ruins good games, For Honor being a good example.
This shit happens often:
[t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/91599028252520382/C24AD2EBFC5878C110EBE9F0375B88F9C4D48FD5/[/t]
I regularly have my guards ignored and I regularly ignore players guards. Its downright terrible at times.
There's an odd lag with guards and timing on the PC sometimes that causes things like guards not to be registered either because of the very small delay or because the directional block is designed for the axis of the thumbstick rather than the mouse, so whenever I use the mouse, it moves back to the previous blocking location real fast. Regardless of the issues the game has, it's really good I think and can benefit greatly from patches.
For Honor would be very stressful on dedicated servers
I don't see the game as being really computation heavy for a server. The only concern would be dominion with how theres AI grunts all over the map but their behavior looks simple enough.
To be honest, I expected as much with the P2P, seeing as Ubisoft likes to be cheap in some areas, and the fact that pretty much every fighting game uses some form of P2P for multiplayer.
And honestly, I haven't had that many issues with the game. A few dropped sessions and session host changes here and there, but not a substantial amount. Not enough to complain in a review or video about.
Still, I wouldn't be against dedicated servers, especially for the 4v4 modes.
Just want to remind everyone that the game has a MINIMUM latency of 100ms even at perfect ping. That shit is ridic.
Been playing since launch, i have not had any of the issues that have been plaguing some people. Sometimes it reconfigures the network but other than that I have been issue free
not talkin shit here but how are you measuring this, i cant find any way to get actual latency numbers and itd be nice to have them
He's probably quoting this video from Battle(non)sense.

And while that could be true, due to the way the game is simulated on every client, it's not often that you notice such a spike.
I honestly don't have any noticeable lag until I decide to play some games with my friend from Australia.
The year is 2017. People still don't realize buying multiplayer game by Ubisoft is like playing russian roulette with 4 bullets loaded.
