A sick trance cover my friend made of a viking metal song

My friend spent a good 35 or so hours on making this song using LMMS
If you don't like some part, don't worry, based on the fact that it's a cover of a Viking metal song, the tune is very varied and changes melody many times throughout to tell a story. So it will move from part to part quite fast.
Here is his new trance version:

And here is the original (actually a really sad but epic song):

It was his first time using the program, and in my opinion the cover is absolutely awesome, as is the original song.
It's a long song, so much depth to some of the parts, in the end it had 24 tracks in LMMS.
So have a listen if you would and give some feedback, if you liked it I'm sure he's appreciate a rating / comment on the video.

I decided to have a shot and did a cover of The Hero, also by Amon Amarth. It's a simpler and shorter song so I concentrated more on the beat and such.
Also my first try with the software, ~5 hours work.
I'd appreciate any youtube ratings and comments of course, constructive critisism is welcome.

Wow, that was actually kinda impressing.
Leaving a comment on his YT page, it was a good cover.
It sounds abit cheesy if you ask me.
Well, it's good for a cover.

Most people just slap some shit over it and call it a cover.

Yeah, he made it all from scratch and I think almost entirely by ear as well.
Thanks for your comment and such.
well it's alright i suppose...
EDIT: just kidding it's sweet, way better than his first attempt lol
the lack of bass kills me inside
i agree it could use some extra bass but that's just me. pretty good cover otherwise
This is not Trance. What makes the genre is the structure of intro>breakdown>buildup>climax>outro
Still interesting nonetheless.

not really got to do anything with structure at all. it's more about what sounds are used and what BPM range it is in
That's not too bad a trance cover, but it needs - like everyone else has said - waaay more bass.
Also, the original song sounded good until the vocals came in, I don't know how people can call that horrible sound 'enjoyable'

It adds depth and emotion, I like it.
I was expecting the song to be absolutely butchered but it was listenable.
Amon Amarth is melodic death metal by the way

Mmm indeed it is melodic death metal, Viking metal is a bit of a grey term for a genre though, it pretty much fits anything with an epic tone which is about norse stuff.

Viking metal usually refers to blackened folk metal with lyrics involving norse paganism, but I think the term "viking metal" is ridiculous and shouldn't be used at all.
It's good i guess, but nothing i'd listen to.

Never heard of it :smug:
Nothing really special. It was okay but I think the original was way better, but that's probably just the metalhead in me.

:downs:
Piss cool.
Damnit, it happen every time I hear them...
right klick -> show image (in all its glory)

I like the song, but the vocals kind of scare me.
Nice cover.
Did a good job capturing the feel of Amon Amarth.
I kinda liked the cover. Viking metal really isn't my thing.
That comic was fucking awesome by the way.
he killed it

Sorry for the 10 hour bump, but that is a kickass comic :D
I know what you mean.
That comic is very accurate, all of that happens to me each time I listen to Amon Amarth.
Sounds like a doom song a bit.
I did a cover myself of The Hero by Amon Amarth.
I added it to the OP, and thus the bump.
