• Spotify finally launches in Japan
Afters years of waiting, Spotify has finally launched its music streaming service in Japan. We reported earlier this month that the launch would happen before September is out, and the company just about delivered on that timeframe. Spotify has had an office in Tokyo for at last 18 months, but protracted negotiations with record labels and the music industry have seen competitors like Apple, Line and Rakuten sneak in first with rival services. Now Spotify has joined its ranks with its free service and the paid-for option which costs 980 yen ($9.60) a month. Japan is a hugely lucrative market for music. Sales are estimated at nearly $3 billion per year which makes it the world’s second largest market behind only the U.S., but Japanese consumers prefer to buy their musical physically, in the form of CDs, than digitally right now. Streaming service providers are viewing that as an opportunity rather than a threat, and success in Japan could give Spotify some momentum headed into 2017 when it is expected that the firm will make efforts to go public.
https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/28/spotify-japan-launch
More japanese bands please?
More japanese bands please?
interesting how there's a whole "genre" dedicated to k-pop on it, would be cool with j-pop too yeah
More japanese bands please?
Here's hoping, bands like The Pillows are really difficult to listen to beyond Youtube.
Iirc they're the first ones to get Spotify lyrics as well. Not very useful unless you like to sing along but it's Coolio.

Japanese culture is out, Korean culture is in [editline]30th September 2016[/editline] See: above me avatar
What do you mean by defined?
how it kinda... flows, like compare japanese to mandarin and mandarin sounds (at least to me) much smoother/more vowels, and i'm not really fond of that i'd say in that order it's something like japanese > korean > chinese > thai (haven't heard it in a while though) > etc
Iirc they're the first ones to get Spotify lyrics as well. Not very useful unless you like to sing along but it's Coolio.
We had it here in Sweden for quite some time, but then it just said that it was "under construction" and now it's completely gone. :(

Korean is also vastly easier to read, with an alphabet of only a couple dozen characters. 안녕 = "Ahnnyeong" ㅇ ㅏ ㄴ ㄴ ㅕ ㅇ Ah N N Yeo Ng

Spotify has a couple albums by Polysics, which is one of my favorite bands of all time But their K-Pop selection is still vastly larger than Japanese. I still think that we won't get a ton of Japanese music since it's only really popular with a few people in the west while K-Pop is an increasingly popular genre in the United States, due in part simply to the fact that there is a growing Korean population in the US as well as other Asians who like Korean culture as well. Like I said before: Korean is in, Japanese is out
Japanese is a bitch to read esp in Hiragana with the "no/nu/me" and "wa/re/ne" but pronunciation and remembering the characters itself they're just mostly consonants followed by a vowel. As long as you know your aeiou you pretty much solved half the language. We'll obviously see a J-Pop category on Spotify soon. Its only a matter of time, I got Canto-Pop, Mando-Pop and Malay-pop back in Malaysia when they first officially released back there.

:toot:
Fucking finally.
Huh, so I guess that explains the giant "Tokyo's best" section that showed up on the Spotify Frontpage yesterday. Neat.
More japanese bands please?
I hope this happens. Every time I go to search for a Japanese band, they either only have their stuff that was released on western labels or don't have it at all.
I hope this means more World Order songs will be added.
I recently finally got Spotify premium and it's really been worth it. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
I hope this means more World Order songs will be added.
That'll be a nice day.
They still need a lot of work on getting korean and japanese bands up to par with the rest of the system. It's incredible how lacking and messy it typically is when I search anything there. Sometimes they correctly find the artist but then they add a bunch of completely non-related amateurish albums with some crazy bad cover art.
I recently finally got Spotify premium and it's really been worth it. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
if you haven't checked out the "discover weekly" feature i highly recommend it, for me it's like 90% superb new music every week

God yes maybe I won't have to rely on YouTube (which is awful for Japanese music) anymore
Never really tried Japanese music, I've listened to Ling Tosite Sigure theyre pretty good, least I don't have to use YouTube now.
Never really tried Japanese music, I've listened to Ling Tosite Sigure theyre pretty good, least I don't have to use YouTube now.
I'd suggest polysics and the pillows. Flcl soundtrack is a great 3 volume album from the pillows. Id suggest "pretty good" by polysics and "ride on shooting star" by the pillows

Finally, hope to see some Oreskaband on it!
