Really interesting. Deep water terrifies me but I think it would be so cool to see the insides of that.
That is NOT far from where I am.

"that lady's gear looks like it has batman ears, is that goggles sticking up or- oh"

I've been writing something set in an abandoned silo and looking up reference images for atmosphere (hence me finding the OP video), and this video helps a ton.
How clean is this water? Wouldn't it be filled with asbestos or something?

I wouldn't dive there willy nilly without glasses and a mask, but as long as you wash your suit after the dive, it should protect you rather well.

FYI this is a Titan I Missile, they were all dismantled and destroyed as part of the SALT I treaty.
How clean is this water? Wouldn't it be filled with asbestos or something?
Uh, not sure. I've heard some silos contain asbestos, which doesn't surprise me. I've also heard that the launch pits frequently contain highly toxic things like coolant and fuel and whatever else they used to maintain the missiles. If I went in, I'd make damn sure that my skin was sealed off to the outside as much as possible.
Good grief was I confused before I checked this thread. This is really neat though, wow.
It would be really cool to buy something like this and completely redo it in to a actual livable place.
It would be really cool to buy something like this and completely redo it in to a actual livable place.
People have done that, but it would be a lot of renovation and remediation work. You'd be spending thousands and thousands of dollars to fix stuff. Possibly less if you only do one portion of the facility, but at that point, where's the fun in having a missile silo for a house if you can't enter the rest of it?
One of these silos was for sale in Colorado for like 100k, and it still had a working generator for all the huge doors and stuff.
People want to turn Silos into their home, but I want to turn it into a fully functional and operational Nuclear Missile Silo. I have a hard on for bunkers.

I've never imagined how terrifying it might had been to live close to nuclear silos. Like the guy said on the video; they'd just hope that the military personnel would lower the bomb and not send it on its way.
Man I've never considered myself claustrophobic or scared of the dark or anything but I think scuba diving in underwater, dark tunnels like that would give me the heebie jeebies.
