Mothers invited to a Scottish Government-backed breastfeeding conference were left angry and bemused after being told that they would not be allowed to breastfeed their babies.
Organisers for the event, titled “Shifting the Curve - Sharing the Challenge Breastfeeding Summit”, said it was "open to everyone who works with children and families" and aimed to “remove some of the barriers” about breastfeeding.
Yet when mothers asked if they could breastfeed their babies at next month’s conference at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, they were told by officials that this would not be "appropriate”.
Elise Stirling, who runs parenting consultancy Bond, Baby!, said she was “dumbfounded” when she was told by officials that the event was for “professionals" rather than breastfeeding mothers.
As the guy above said, professional means it's your job.
I never understood what the big fuss was about breastfeeding in public. I mean yeah, it catches you by surprise sometimes if you're not expecting to see it, but it's harmless and shouldn't be punished.

do not diss pro breastfeeders
i seen one feed 30 babies in 5 minutes
Ever hear of a wet nurse?
I thought that was a euphemism until I looked it up.
Everyone always gets so upset at the sight of a woman's breast.
I don't understand it. It's a part of the human body, everyone has seen or will see one. Why should we shield people from a natural part of the human body?

Because they make my bathing suit area feel all tingly!!!
I totally understand the ban. I'm more of an ass man my self and all these breasts offend me with their privilege! Where's the love for that beautiful female ass?

So are dicks, but people tend to draw a line there on the "natural part of the human body" thing.

There's also nothing wrong with being courteous to the people around them and going somewhere quiet and private to do it either.
Defecating is natural too, if you need to go, you don't just drop a dookie in public and show your ass to everyone walking by. I mean hey, it's just a natural part of your body too, don't be too alarmed over a bare ass.
And by all means, I'm not saying banish someone to breastfeeding in a toilet or wherever, just somewhere discreet and private, because breasts shockingly enough are still sexualized in this day and age.

That's because most people can agree that dicks look weird. Everyone loves boobs.

Breasts may be sexualised, but to most people the act of breastfeeding itself isn't, so there really shouldn't be any problem with it. Unless you're incapable of recognising context or something.

Mmm, so only attractive women should breast feed then? :v:
I'm twisting your words, but a basis like "natural part of the body" and "everyone likes boobs" isn't a good way to suggest it should be ok.
On the other hand, men, including fat men with moobs, can go shirtless in public (however much I wish they couldn't some days). So, women can't show their breasts because they are sexualized, and they are sexualized (or at least them only being only sexual in context) because they are hidden away only for sexual situations.
In short, I support women being able to bear their breasts without being charged a crime for it, although I doubt many would take that opportunity it allows breast feeding to be done in public without breaking any rules and that is the way it should be.
Men and womens nipples arn't nearly different enough to validate such different views on being shirtless.

Yeah but breastfeeding doesn't leave behind shit, or stink up the place.

Why is it a problem for something sexualized (which breastfeeding usually isn't anyway) to happen in public?

Good god man, think of the children!
Specifically only half of them, because its sort of pointless for girls, but think of all the little boys that may be exposed to breasts, think of the psychological damage!
I mean it might drive them to lookup....porn

Nope. Read up on it now tho.

What's wrong with porn?
They can learn some educational shit.

- in order to signal to my partner that I'm having a good time, I have to moan so loud the whole block can hear it.
- a woman isn't enjoying sex unless she screams "oh god yes fuck me in my hungry cunt"
- every woman expects you to ejaculate in her face
- once you ejaculate, it's over
Breasts may be sexualised, but to most people the act of breastfeeding itself isn't, so there really shouldn't be any problem with it. Unless you're incapable of recognising context or something.
To be honest, when most people see a breast these days, it's typically in a sexual context. Almost always, breasts are revered as wonderful part of the body, with some fashion based around to highlight them. You can argue that breasts are not inherently sexual, and it's absolutely true, but I'm western culture, breasts are absolutely sexual context, almost constantly.
That said, I feel people should be able to make exceptions to their sexuality and just allow women to breastfeed with ease. It's only "disgusting" because people tell themselves such. I'll admit, if I saw a woman breastfeeding in public, my kneejerk reaction would be feeling a little bit awkward, because of the societal association with breasts, but I'd be able to make the conscious decision that it's perfectly fine, and be able to live on without it affecting my life.

It's this glorification that helps cause these issues.
God women like this are so weird. Like being a mom is a hobby to them. My aunt quit her job to raise her two kids (bad idea since her husband makes dick and they just took on a huge expensive mortgage 100 miles away from where he works.) and her facebook is just loaded with shit about being a mom. She's like, politically radical about the stupidest shit, like cloth diapers and breastfeeding and how formula is bad for you and how women who don't stay home with their children are bad moms
These women just do this shit to feel morally superior to other women. That's all it is.

What. Literally all women breastfeed. Those who don't are either ill or have some other medical complication as far as I know.

Literally all of them? Even the ones without children? How fascinating.
oh the situational Irony

"WTF is this shit?"
You enter a bus or something. Three people around you. First is a woman breastfeeding her baby. The second one is talking loudly on the phone. Third is playing dumb loud music on a MP3 right next to you. I don't know about you guys, but for me the other two are a bigger problem in public places.

Humans developed disgust towards defecation and other waste as a way to instinctively protect ourselves from disease, that's why we get alarmed and offended about it, breastfeeding poses no danger of disease to individuals on the street, so being disgusted by it is more of an individual thing rather than an instinct we all share.
