I really dislike this sort of "yelling in your ear sound super excited" shit.

People have been saying this since his first video, I think ya'll should expect it at this point.

This is the first video of his that I've watched.
And until he gets a new microphone, I'd rather not watch anymore, the quality of the mic + his voice is just not good on my ears.

Just because it's expected doesn't mean it should be allowed to continue to be a thing. This is an easily fixable audio issue, it's super hard to watch a video where my ears are stinging the entire time.
Shame too, because the video itself is a nice watch, but I can't possibly sit through all of it, my ears can't handle it.
I’ve been struggling with audio mastering since I made the channel. I’m sorry about that guys. I’m going to go back to the drawing board on the audio.

Fuck, maybe I’ll just reupload it after I fix it.

I've watched some other videos like the San Andreas one and it isn't that bad in those.
Sounds like he used a bit too many effects like a compressor or something.

I lost presets so many time because I was between PCs, so I’ve literally just had to keep remaking presets each time (without fully understanding what I was doing). Now that I finally have a concrete PC workstation, I’m about to put full dedication back into everything. I gotta go to work today, otherwise I’d be working on the audio as we speak. However, I think I’ll wait a day or two to reupload. I’ve been getting a lot of feedback, and both new and old viewers are coming back to the channel thanks to a few lovely people spreading the word, so I’ll reupload the video later so there’s not a bunch of links leading to nothing everywhere. I’m looking at Sunday to get the fixed version out, I think.

Have you thought about getting some hardware for your microphone? It will sound so much better if you connect your mic to a good mixer or get individual effects like a gate and compressor.
You don't have to do this in your program then and get to keep a continuous good sound on every video.

I have thought about it, but I never considered whether or not such an investment would be worth it, if I could do it digitally. However, I'll take an educated guess and say that the real hardware version of what I'm doing is probably simpler in some respects and probably will sound a lot more professional.
[editline]26th January 2018[/editline]
What do you guys think about this? I used a multiband compressor to cut some higher frequencies.

NFS 2015 was a solid 7 for me if you completely ignore the plot and characters and utterly AWFUL live action cutscenes. But ima be that guy and say get FH3. It's fantastic and as difficult or easy as you want it to be, it also has a literal hot wheels expansion.

I think your compressor in general is too aggressive. What sort of threshold and ratio are you using? Maybe start with using a single band compressor.

It burns me how not great FH3 is on PC is the thing. I kinda gave up because while it’s incredible when it works, it crashes so frequently (or sometimes doesn’t load at all) that playing for long periods, or even just alt tabbing, requires a restart of the game. Shame considering that the Hot Wheels tracks look really good. Also, the controls and drifting are nice, but for my personal tastes they’re still inferior to NFS. The tutorial also drags the fuck on which rubbed me the wrong way.
I’m gonna try to give it a go again, though. Again, I’m a guy for racing games so it’s still solid, even fantastic in its own right.

When I get home, I’ll go at it again. I tried a DeEsser and it worked, but it also ended up sounding like it outright lowered the fidelity.
This guy is too easily entertained. The physics and controls for NFS2015 are abysmal even by arcade standards. The physics do not fit the game and there is no feel for what the car is trying to do.
The budget mostly went on the well done atmosphere and style. Wish they would've just kept this as an individual game and expand it to the point of becoming World of Warcraft: Ken Block.
I bought Payback, which does the physics way better, but it doesn't capture the feel and hype I got over NFS2015. But I still preordered the Deluxe Edition of it because I just wanted to see neons in NFS again.

For me the crashing and stuff stopped, I also uninstalled the blizzard mountain xpac when it was apparently causing issues. Pro tip: ABS only, normal steering. You'll figure out drifting once TCS and STM aren't fucking with you.

I'll check it out with what you recommended. Who knows! There was never going to be just one racing game I made a video on anyhow!

Also: I’ve fixed the audio and I’m going to reupload the video tomorrow.
Fixed version up:

i will edit op xoxo
I agree with the fact that the video romanticizes the game a bit too much, but I still think there is a good game underneath, despite its flaws here and there.
Offtopic, but I also liked the GranTurismo 2 mention. Good lord I love that game.

Thank you so much! And thank you for posting it in the first place. Still surreal to see people promoting my videos before I do after all this time.

I think the issue looking back (also one of my insecurities) was that in retrospect, I wished that I had more fully outlined the things I liked about Need for Speed instead of just using BP as a safety net. Unfortunately by the time that had become a little more apparent, I was simply too deep into the production to go back and do any of those edits, especially since I don't yet have the means to do on-the-fly recordings/adjustments to the script.
When I make a video, I do all the audio first in one big file, so that I can streamline what's being said and make the video around that, while doing any of the minimal cuts within Premiere. If you listen closely, you'll hear some non-isolated bits of speech where I snuck in some phrases to clarify or fix what I was saying.
That being said, I'm still really satisfied with how it came out. If anything, every video is another big learning experience. Taking away important notes from each video is half the fun, anyhow. In the future, videos are only going to be better considering I'm (as said before) going to invest in equipment that'll take me setup to the next level. I was working in a tiny room before, so bigger/more professional equipment was a bit of a no-go. I have a whole apartment now, so there's (literally) a lot more room to play with.

Don't do this. The only piece of hardware you need is an audio interface with a preamp. Everything else can be done digitally, and with higher-fidelity results.

This is the setup I have now. I might get a mixer anyhow because it’s basically everything that I wanted for streaming. I know I should be expected to google this, but do you (or anyone else) know of some audio mastering videos or writeups that you can recommend?
I thought the video was great and found myself agreeing with you, I didn't notice anything wrong with audio but maybe that's cause I'm a pleb when it comes to this.
The fact you hype it up and romanticize it so much lets me feel what you're feeling and connect better with the video. Anyway that's just my 2 cents.

If you just watched it then it's likely you saw the reuploaded version with improved audio.

I saw the original when it was posted. It was just loud from what I remember.
Regardless, thanks so much for the kind conpliments!

I don't see it as much of an issue.
While the video is half BP half NFS, I feel like it was a good comparison, especially since you loved it and found NFS2015 to be a good measure to it.
Plus, you might not have a single problem with things other people don't like, like the physics or controls. It's your opinion so, I don't think people should really complain about it, and I guess that sort of hands it up to me aswell :v: I mean, I used to shit on HP2010 for being a Burnout gameplay clone with NFS themes, and people would sometimes not really like it, but I still LOVE the game to this day for its vicious speed and amazing setting and vehicle choice.
In the end, it makes sense to make a video about NFS in one half and BP in the other though.
BP followed the steps of NFS by having free roam with a few other elements, which NFS then went back to, inheriting some of those elements BP gave us.
It's a good video really. They all are. You probably didn't have good equipment before, but you sure could have fooled me. Pretty good editing!

Dang man. I gotta say, reading this made me feel a whole lot better than I did when today started. Thank you for watching and giving input too.
I should play Hot Pursuit again. I don't think I spent too much time on it. I know I was excited because it looked like Need for Speed getting it's groove back.
