A SHOOTING has occurred at the Florida State University on the Tallahassee campus. A telephone alert urged people to take shelter in a nearby building and stay away from doors and windows. NCAA reported that a gunman opened fire inside the library of the university. A nursing supervisor for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare confirmed to The Associated Press that the hospital was treating two people for gunshot wounds. The supervisor, who declined to be identified due to department policy, didn’t disclose their conditions or whether they are students. The supervisor said officials had no information about whether there would be additional victims needing treatment. Police have reportedly cordoned off the library, while there are already forensic teams at the scene.
http://www.news.com.au/world/north-america/gunman-opens-fire-at-the-florida-state-university-tallahassee-campus/story-fnh81jut-1227129884700
Two friends of mine from High School go here. They are safe in their rooms, but everyone is scared out of their wits. Class is cancelled tomorrow.
I hope the two reported victims make it through.

Is it that time of the year again?
Is it that time of the year again?
There's no "time of the year" this shit happens, though there really seemed to be a wide spate of it back at the beginning of summer.
Holy Fuck I freaked out because I read Florida University and not Florida State University because my cousin goes there.
Well, he wouldn't be much of a gunman if he didn't start shooting.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends. I couldn't imagine being in an active shooter incident
Its over. Police got him. 3 people shot.
Holy shit, I think my cousin goes there.
FSU PD is taking a bit of flak from how they handled it from the media. I think they did just fine. [editline]20th November 2014[/editline] aaaand my merge
Its over. Police got him. 3 people shot.
Got as in killed or captured?
Got as in killed or captured?
What do you think?

So when's the media going to put this guy in the spotlight and make lawmakers try to shove knee-jerk bullshit through the government?
So when's the media going to put this guy in the spotlight and make lawmakers try to shove knee-jerk bullshit through the government?
I'm not saying 'ban all guns and repeal the second amendment', but yours is the only country in the world with this problem. More Americans every year die from gun violence than people in any other country in the world, often even including countries at war. Hey, I get the whole 'freedoms' argument, but face it. You've got a major problem. As a Canadian living in Ontario, I'm pissed because your gangs have been setting up shop in the GTA. Your gun problems are being exported, and we don't want any of that shit up here.
Its too late to ban guns now dude. In America, that would just be idiotic, as too many of them are in circulation.
Its too late to ban guns now dude. In America, that would just be idiotic, as too many of them are in circulation.
Yeah, was thinking about that. There's literally no way to fix the USA's gun problem. I just want it to stay out of my country.
Hold up, that's pretty clearly wrong, if you're going by homicide rate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate If you're going by pure number of deaths, then it shouldn't be very surprising that a country the size of the US, with roughly half the population of every European nation combined, would have a high absolute number of deaths. The 'only country in the world with this problem' claim is wrong too, but shootings in, for example, South Africa don't exactly get the same press coverage as shootings in the US, and are proportionally rarer because, again, lower population. There are plenty of arguments to be made without resorting to tired, factually incorrect rhetoric.

Even if legal firearms accounted for all of the difference (which of course it isn't) , it still isn't enough to make a huge difference in violent crime.
I have a friend who goes here, she was off campus when it happened luckily hope those injured make it okay, this isn't too close to me but its still scary as shit :(
God damn it. School Shooting Season 2014 is still going :(
There's this incredible story going around on twitter that some guy was shot at and didn't even notice, but later checked his books and a bullet went through 2 of them he just checked out and potentially saved his life. Idk how he didn't notice he was being targeted but if it's true that's pretty amazing.

If the books had a gun this wouldn't happen
Apparently the shooter was a lawyer who had graduated from there

Gangs will always have access to guns. And to be honest you're most likely to be shot by a cop, like that kid was on the TTC a while ago, that doesn't mean we're going to disarm the police like in the UK....well at least where I live.

Our murder rate is higher, but still entirely reasonable and we do better than Canada in a number of categories despite having more of the social problems that generally indicate high crime. Furthermore our crime rates have been falling since the early '90's in spite of rapidly relaxing gun laws. I understand that the knee jerk reaction is to blame firearms, particularly as an outsider looking in, but the situation is not only far more complex than you might imagine, but also not actually a problem.
Can be stop trying to make this a gun rights issue. Shit, nothing on the books would even stop this. Literally nothing you pass would stop this. Stop trying to because you now look like idiots. With that said, guy who had the bullet stopped by books is lucky as hell.
