Also it's more or less in the hands of the patient here; everybody's got the right to refuse treatment, no matter how whacked out it might sound, for whatever reason.

It is expected for her to do the opposite, since it serves the general consensus of baby policy. Sacrificing yourself for your baby doesnt help with it.

Shitty situation, when getting cancer treatment it's either stop treatment and have the baby, or get an abortion and get the treatment. That's why when you are diagnosed doctors specifically advise patients to not have children during treatment. I can only think of one patient at the hospital I worked at who didn't end up dead after going through with childbirth without treatment.

(I don't know) You also referenced the official government policy in place for a couple decades, and now you're talking about cultural traditions that date back thousands of years. I think people are failing to understand the bond between mother and child...hell, I've heard girls 'talk' to their unborn children even before they started showing. Then you're told this child is to be killed for the chance of you to live. Sometimes you bite the bullet for the things that matter the most, what feels right, fuck everyone else.

That's terrible. His mom gave up her life for him so I hope the kid stays well and does some really great things.
