Well, I'm pretty much addicted to cigarettes, I didn't believe in addiction till I started, and boy was I wrong. I've had a sore throat for about 2 weeks now, I know it's from smoking. I also have some minor chest pain here and there, mostly when I lay on my sides. I cough up black fluids daily, I pretty much feel like death daily now, but even with all of this I can't seem to stop. I think about dying from it all the time but continue anyway. I want to quit, but there's a part of me that also doesn't. I was wondering what I could do without 'professional help' to quit, no patches, gum, or anything I have to use to quit. Maybe there's some sort of alternative to all of that? I wonder a lot if I'm just going to keep going till I die, it doesn't bother ME that much, but I don't want to put that on my family.
So if anyone has suggestions, post here.
Simply don't smoke. If you can't force yourself to do it, you're going to have to get professional help.
sorry for insulting you i hope you win at life go go power rangers
People say chew on gum or suck on lollipops. Don't disregard that, it's not bad advice.
You're a dummy for starting to smoke. You deserve your pain.
Have fun.
I guess so.
I absolutely fucking hate how virtually everyone on facepunch says "durrr just stop smoking its not hard lamo"
you people have no idea what addiction is and have no first hand experience.

Nobody is saying it's easy. It's just your own fault for starting.

Hey look! It's Mr. Perfect!
I didn't expect much help from this. I guess I just wanted to hear what I've already been told.
Just disregard this thread.

Not till it gets locked buddy
My parents attempted to stop smoking several times. One of the things that worked well for them was substituting the cigarettes for small candies and gradually lower the rate at which they smoke and heighten the rate at which they have the small candies or whatever substitute that's preferred.

That's what my mom did. Now she chews gum all the time in place of cigarettes. It's obviously not going to be a very satisfying substitute at first, but honestly, there's really no "easy" way to get over an addiction. I know you don't want to hear this, but OP, you're just going to have to grin and bear the discomfort for a few days if you really want to kick this.

yes I have and its one of the simplest addictions to break. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and just don't buy cigerettes, quiting is just willpower if you lack that then substitute it for having a drink of water or something.
Destroy your smokes and never buy them again.

I've been smoking for 14-16 years now. I'm only 24.
My family has a history of lung cancer, when I was a child I thought, Why not? Even the ones who didn't smoke, died of it.... Ignorance brought me to where I am at. Always did.
All I have to say is not ask for a reason, or an excuse, or even a way to quit. All it takes is YOU. Its a habit, its an addiction... a severe one. When I tried to cold-turkey it, I raged for 7 days straight. The sweating, the sleepless nights.. the hunger, the ANGER, the RAGE. Its rough, its pretty tough when you got a member in your house smoking too. I started to withdrawl real hard when I came to familiar spots where I can smoke. I could smell it, taste it... only after 24 hours.
Perhaps its my own willpower that inhibited my actions of quitting. I don't know how long you've been smoking, but if you care about yourself, quit. I try my best to prohibit people from starting up, or even continuing.
Op please quit
Lung cancer is a terrible, terrible way to die. I have seen firsthand what it does to a person and its just not worth it
LMAO. You thought older people like me telling you to never start smoking was just BS, right? I guess you learned the hard way.
I'm at 4 packs a day, but at least I'm losing weight. The reason I started smoking was to lose weight. I can eat Burger King all fuckin' day if I wanted to and just watch the weight fall off.
At this point, I can't quit. 4x20 = 80 cigs a day. 1 cig = about 6 minutes. 6x80 = 480 minutes. Basically, 8 hours a day smoking. Bah. No laughing matter, been smoking for 3 years now. Anyway, you can see how bad it is with lung cancer, etc.
Case in point, quit while it's still early, or DON'T START AT ALL.

Withdrawl is known to kill people as well. AS nicotine can relieve stress, the receptors in your brain will pour it all back.
I wish I tried this when I can, and I know its inhumane as all possible. But when you got someone who cares about you, you're willing to do this:
For 2 weeks.. you need to be tied down. Without the proper willpower, you WILL go back. And YOU will hurt someone. I know I did... nicotine is a dangerous chemical. I was tied down for just one week, and I still came out hungering.. viscious. Like a large cat let out of its cage, and hasn't been fed for a solid two weeks. I tore into people, I eventually beat the crap out of one kid when he refused to "bum" me a cigaratte. What the fuck was wrong with me? I invoked anger, and aggresion upon someone who was trying to help me? My brain did not think so, it was a illogical decision.
But, do what you can.... seeek the help you must. But you have to quit. For your health, for your future.. I still smoke, its because I cannot help myself. I can't help myself in a lot of places. But you can.. you can bring yourself to the greater goal.
Please quit. Take it from smoker for almost TWO decades. This is something not for YOU, your family.. neither me. Help yourself, solve the problem. Take the steps.
* Simmons Talk *
I go without a cigarette for 2 hours, other than sleep of course, I get increasingly agitated. At 4 hours, I go into a "roid rage" I guess. 8 or more hours, Do not talk to me, look at me, or god forbid bump into me on the street. Nicotine is worse than crack. I'll put fucking dents into metal, break glass, break walls, etc. If i were to quit, I'd need to literally be tied down. With nothing less than chains, or it will get broken.
If I could go back to before I smoked that first cig, I'd do it. Even if that meant selling my fucking soul. Seriously.
Read Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking, everybody I know who has read it has stopped smoking since.
Cold turkey is a fucking horrible way to quit
I'm down to 1-2 a day. It's not very hard if you do it gradually. Getting rid of that last one seems to be impossible but I can manage a couple days at least.
It's never to early or too late to quit smoking :unsmith:
From what I hear it's better to smoke less by each day/week, than rather just suddenly stop smoking at all. But I've never been addicted so I don't know.
cut your fingers off so you cant hold the cigarettes

God damn, I never thought smoking seriously affected people this badly (in small amounts), I've been smoking for years and I've never felt like you are right now OP, could it be that you've just got a cold?
Op, you're not going to die. that black shit you're coughing up is the resin from the smoke. Any smoker can tell you the same thing. First of all, don't focus on that thought, it could lead to anxiety and stress which could make you feel worse than you are now. I would know, I developed three ulcers due to stress.
I was a HEAVY smoker for about 7 years. I smoked a pack and a half per day, smoked weed everyday and smoked hookah everyday. It was a horrible trifectalore of lung killing power. I'm paying for it now, I have horrible chest pains and have a mild sore throat all the time.
Your willpower is what is going to get you over smoking. It took me years of saying "I need to quit smoking" to finally do it. Not a bad idea to always keep a pack of chewing gum on you, not necessarily nicorette gum, just for insta-cravings. Also, Carry a box of toothpicks with you. Any time I craved a cigarette, i would chew on a toothpick and that helped me tremendously. I guess I was on the whole oral fixation about cigarettes.
If you finally do stop for a while, you will feel Amazing! You'll be able to breathe deeper, not run out of breathe easily. I can't begin to describe how well you will feel, it's a great feeling dude, please stop smoking for yours and your family's sake.
