Now, reports have surfaced that children in Germany happened upon a World War II-era bazooka while on their own Easter egg hunt that day. Police were called to a wooded area in the town of Holzminden in northern Germany on Sunday after a group of children discovered a rusty but apparently still functional bazooka under a pile of leaves, Spiegel Online International reports. Officers cordoned off the area and took the weapon to a facility where they could destroy it in a controlled setting, according to Spiegel Online. The bazooka is one of thousands of weapons left over from World War II that remain around Germany. In a separate article about the bomb hunting business in Germany, Hans-Georg Carls, a private detective and geographer who tracks bombs with aerial photography, told reporters that debris removal specialists recover about 20,000 tons of material left over from the war every year. Dozens of people have been killed after stepping on bombs that failed to explode. In Berlin alone, there are an estimated 15,000 duds yet to be recovered in and around the city, according to the paper. Leftover artillery from the war has proven dangerous in other countries as well. In 2005, the Japanese army launched a large-scale effort to recover and safely destroy 700,000 artillery shells that troops left in northeast China during the war, some of which had killed schoolchildren in the area. And in 2009, a mining company in Australia found 144 undetonated shells on a site believed to be a weapons facility used by U.S. troops during the war, according to the nonprofit Nuclear Threat Initiative. Australia's Defense Department later safely destroyed the shells.
Seriously, they destroyed it? Why not de-mil it and put it in a museum? The fuck?
More likely a panzerfaust. For some reason, the media always calls any rocket-based weapon a bazooka.
More likely a panzerfaust. For some reason, the media always calls any rocket-based weapon a bazooka.
so do I, lol common parlance. it's kind of like calling any and all vacuum cleaners "hoovers" I should really stop doing that
More likely a panzerfaust. For some reason, the media always calls any rocket-based weapon a bazooka.
You should give them credit for not calling it AK-47.
automerde
so do I, lol common parlance. it's kind of like calling any and all vacuum cleaners "hoovers" I should really stop doing that
I've never heard that
I've never heard that
it's mostly a UK and Australia thing AFAIK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hoover_Company
More likely a panzerfaust. For some reason, the media always calls any rocket-based weapon a bazooka.
Old weapons are everywhere under ground in Germany, buy a metal detector and you are bound to find something. It's not legal there though
so do I, lol common parlance. it's kind of like calling any and all vacuum cleaners "hoovers" I should really stop doing that
yeah but this is just directly misleading:
Yeah most likely this
Seriously, they destroyed it? Why not de-mil it and put it in a museum? The fuck?
If I recall, Germany does have some strict regulations on demilitarizing things. To transport old tanks and other armored APCs through Germany, they have break the gun lock, fire several holes into the cannon barrel, and then piece holes into the sides of the vehicle's armor. I guess they're better off destroying it, which is what their job is, than to go through the trouble of getting something there are plenty of demilitarized.
What can't you find during easter? Live bazookas, live grenades...
Had to leave my home for a day a few years ago because they found a bomb next to our house while building. Just recently they evacuated half of downtown because of a big ass bomb. Find that shit everywhere.
Reminds me of when I and a friend was picking up garbage in a tiny forest close to our school (every year we were give areas to clean up by the school), and we found several smoke grenades under a big rock. So we put them in the garbage bag and walked off. Shortly after some army guys yelled at us to stop, and said "Wow, good thing you found these!". Obviously in a joking way though. Apparently they were having some training in the area. We were both 8 at that time so didn't really know what to do.
What can't you find during easter? Live bazookas, live grenades...
Live Jesus.
best easter egg hunt i've heard of
More likely a panzerfaust. For some reason, the media always calls any rocket-based weapon a bazooka.
like it really fucking matters
Live Jesus.
You see the weapons are all that remains from soldiers who were hunting Jesus.
like it really fucking matters
well panzerfausts aren't really museum pieces since 90% of the thing is the explosive part so it does matter
yeah but this is just directly misleading:
Is that the weapon they found? That's not a Bazooka or a Panzerschreck, it's not a WW2 weapon. It's an AT4, created in the 60's by Sweden, and they're still in use around the world today.
Is that the weapon they found? That's not a Bazooka or a Panzerschreck, it's not a WW2 weapon.
like it really fucking matters
hehe yeah man god forbid the media actually uses factual terminology haha how stupid
considering the trees in the background and the getty images watermark I don't think this is what they found in Germany.
Nonsense, there are palms here everywhere, thanks to the global warming and shit.
Is that the weapon they found? That's not a Bazooka or a Panzerschreck, it's not a WW2 weapon. It's an AT4, created in the 60's by Sweden, and they're still in use around the world today.
No, that's the image they used in the article :v:
"Child finds a panzerfaust that is actually a bazooka but not actually a bazooka its an at4"
like it really fucking matters
"Child finds a live bantam rooster under pile of leaves in germany!" Panzerfaust, Bantam Rooster what the fuck does it matter, they are both things.
I wanna go to some where like the black forest in Germany with a metal detector sometime, find some really cool stuff.
like it really fucking matters
Sorry for wanting the media to be accurate in their stories.
why were our bombs so shit that you're only discovering them 70 years later
"Child finds a panzerfaust that is actually a bazooka but not actually a bazooka its an at4" "Child finds a live bantam rooster under pile of leaves in germany!" Panzerfaust, Bantam Rooster what the fuck does it matter, they are both things.
you're not getting my point. How is the type of weapon even relevant? It shoots rockets, and that's all that we need to know. Would it change the story if it was an other type of explosive weapon? no [editline]10th April 2012[/editline] that is like replying to "a van ran over an explosive barrel today, killing 5" with "it was A FUCKING MINIVAN. SHITTY REPORTERS"
