We may have a shitty football team, but I love the Longhorn Band. This video is really neat because it's cut together from multiple games/shows/practices. It's hard as a student to not get hyped about this kind of stuff.
I had a lot of friends who did marching band / moved on to be parts of prestigious drumlines and whatnot, lots of respect for the musicians who get into this - it's a whole culture in itself.
I still find it just crazy how many people attend college games down there. Being in a college marching band would pretty cool because of that.
Oh hey, I was at that game yesterday. The band was one of the highlights of an otherwise pretty rough day at DKR, with how hot it was and with how poorly we played lol
I love marching band.
Here's some POVs from some other bands:

You wouldn't believe how the deep the marching band culture actually goes; it's pretty nuts.
It's crazy how much work and effort and thought goes into something that is in effect little more than a glorified pep rally for these games.
These guys are massively skilled and talented and this could be a show in itself, but when you put it in the halftime show it just seems like it's there to distract you from boredom.
Reminds me of the video clip of Stephen Fry at a college football game

It's kind of cute, his reaction. He can't believe how big these things are

The first game I went to was Texas v. Notre Dame. Over 100,000 people crammed into the stadium. It was incredible; wish I had the time to be in the marching band.

Physically demanding as all hell, too. Marching bands are completely underappreciated, particularly on tv game broadcasts.
This kinda blew my mind, seeing how crowded those stands were for a college football game. I'm pretty sure we don't have shit of this scale in the UK, unless it's at national sporting events.

College football is bigger than the NFL in a lot of places. Particularly in big states (and many universities) or states with either horrible or no pro teams.
[QUOTE=pod;52645251]I love marching band.

DCI is like a level beyond college bands. Some of them travel the country like they're on tour.
Am in college marching band, can confirm is crazy.
Some points of reference:
Our provincial CFL team (Canada's version of the NFL where the entire league earns less than certain NFL quarterbacks), has a huge new stadium that filled to capacity with added overflow would probably fit like 40,000 people.... maybe. They generally sell only about 30,000 tickets I think.
Our biggest University in the province has a football team which plays in the CFL stadium for their home games. There is no way they would ever fill the stadium. The average attendance for U Sports Football games (Our top college / university league) is a bit over 3,000. In comparison, the average attendance for American college games is 43,600.
Another comparison: Total attendance in 2016, U Sports Football = 357,000, American College Football = 38 million. Canada is about 10x smaller than the states in population, but our Football attendance is more than 100x smaller.
That being said, football is still big in Canada. The CFL championship was watched by about 30% of the country / 10 million people the last year. Additionally, the CFL is one of the highest average attendance professional leagues in any sport according to Wikipedia.

Oh man this takes me back to my quad drumming days. Nothing works out your core more than 10 hours a day in August heat constantly walking around with 40 lb toms hanging by your groin for band camp.
I can't stop thinking of these guys

I marched with this drumcorps for a few years. It includes different member's points of view. Show's based on the book Animal Farm for context.
