Guys Attach HD Camera To a Balloon - Hits an Altitude of 107145 ft, Pops and Plummets

This is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. This camera-equipt balloon soars to the edge of the Earth's atmosphere before it pops and the camera falls more than 20 miles to the ground.

Ah similar to that MIT project. I wonder if this one was inspired off of it.
Amazing.
I wish I were that camera.
Holy fuck that was awesome.
That was pretty cool, could have gotten' some nice shots if it wasn't spinning so much.
I saw this the other day. It was so cool! If I had the money, and I knew how to do this, I would totally try it myself.
Only problem is that I don't have the money... and I don't know how to do it myself...
This project reminds me a lot of this one:

According to the statistics, the temp at the highest point was about -45 degrees Celsius.
Very cool stuff.

and the fucking camera survived, amazing!
That was absolutely amazing.
They launched this from Camrose, Alberta.
Here's the flight path:

That was pretty damn cool.
I was just wondering what if it had hit someone when it landed?
I mean, I don't think they could exactly control where it came down, so I suppose maybe they just hoped it wouldn't hit anyone.
Would've made for interesting footage, at any rate.

It had a small parachute to slow its decent. Otherwise it would have dropped like a rock and would have hit the ground causing damage to whatever it hit, and obviously the the camera wouldn't have survived.

Oh okay, that explains a lot. I did not think of that.
Now that I think about it, it did fall pretty slowly.

You see the parachute at the end when it finally lands.
I wish I could fly :frown:

Let both videos load, then when the OP's Video reaches 5:00 Press play on this one.
Lol, you can hear sirens.
Holy shit and it still works?! Fucking incredible!

Oh a parachute you say? Still awesome.
Fuck yeah!
Man, that was truly epic. I can't believe it still works after falling so far.

That's the popped balloon
Holy shit that was fun to watch.
I don't think it had a parachute, Or else the camera would have drifted hundreds of miles out before landing.
It was just the popped balloon still attached to the camera.
I want the entire video! I wonder if he will ever upload it.

Wrong. They drift very little due to the parachute being small in surface area. Every single one of these launches has a parachute and the balloon lands close to the launch (>50 miles).
