The recall, which now totals 2,591,665 cars, includes all model years of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet HHR, Saturn Ion, Saturn Sky, Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Solstice made from 2003-2011. Older versions of those cars, dating from 2003-2007, were recalled in February. The fun never ends... until your car switches off on the highway.
ignition is funny on my hhr sounds like a fun deal
ignition is funny on my hhr sounds like a fun deal
Is it actually? I own one as well and haven't noticed anything strange... I'm kind of hoping the dealer will fix the leaking passenger side compartment (and shorted blower resistor) complementary.
Not saying that it's okay for the cars to be shutting off but I never got why people hang 3 tons of shit off of their car keys so it can smack their legs every time they take a turn.
-snip- oooh okey, they are just recalling and replacing the switches, not the cars >Facepam<
I know it's a stretch, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if one of their competitors hired an engineer to work there and fuck shit up as much as possible. it is dumb but it wouldn't surprise me if i heard about it lol

And they actually kind of do, there's been tons of recalls by GM. Not saying it's a bad company though, they sell tons of cars and have lots of brands so that's likely why.

It has literally on two occasions just shut off and I've gone off the road mid turn.
Ford has amazing recalls like the 1999 Ford explorer with exploding brake lines in the hydraulic control unit, Good times.
Ford has amazing recalls like the 1999 Ford explorer with exploding brake lines in the hydraulic control unit, Good times.
even worse was in 1996, where their vehicles would catch on fire while parked.
Ford has amazing recalls like the 1999 Ford explorer with exploding brake lines in the hydraulic control unit, Good times.
Can't forget the Pinto!
I wonder if this problem is at all similar to the problem Hondas get with the electrical portion of their ignition systems, where the car will randomly stall. To be honest this doesn't surprise me. Quality of GM products has been deplorable since the 1980s.
well I have to go get some groceries, its been a nice life this recall really is frivalous, they were only able to confirm like 10-15 cases where this directly lead to a fatality, 15 out of 10 million cars, its not really surprising they didn't do anything [editline]29th March 2014[/editline]
To be honest this doesn't surprise me. Quality of GM products has been deplorable since the 1980s.
when's the last time you bought GM, the 80s was when they made shit cars, now they make really good reliable cars. Also this had nothing to do with the cars, stupid people put 10lbs of shit on a keychain and the engineers didn't think that would be a problem when they were designing it. this really only will kill someone under very specific circumstances, and even then only if they didn't remember that they could stear, or use the handbrake or turn the damn engine back on. I've had this happen at highway speeds and I didn't panic I just put it in neutral and started the engine
stupid people put 10lbs of shit on a keychain and the engineers didn't think that would be a problem when they were designing it
This ruins every cylinder locking mechanism, not just the ones on GM vehicles. Also I never said that the vehicles weren't reliable, I was just pointing out that they are made from cheap materials and they don't age very well in most cases.

It was stupid common on early 2000's GMs, but there were a few Fords that did it too (usually F-series trucks and Tauruses).

As well as ignition switches. Those burn out like it is going out of style.

Unless you look it up its entirely possible that you could take a car in for a service and find out they have carried out recall work on it. [editline]29th March 2014[/editline]
even worse was in 1996, where their vehicles would catch on fire while parked.
What the fuck, I want more information on this.
this is the second recall my cars been in

My cobalt turned off while I was on the highway last week, now i understand why! I don't even have that many keys or trinkets on my keychain, but I guess I'll drive my Hyundai until I get this fixed lol
I've had this happen. It's fucking terrifying, your steering wheel locks up and all you can do is smash the brakes and hope you don't kill yourself or someone else. I was very lucky it wasn't on one of our many roads that have no guard rails with a fall straight down 50 ft.

[editline]29th March 2014[/editline] I'm actually kind of hoping they offer a Porsche as a loaner car

Why does your government keep alive this wreck of a manufacturer, when you could be encouraging other up and coming ones that could pave the way for the future.
Why does your government keep alive this wreck of a manufacturer, when you could be encouraging other up and coming ones that could pave the way for the future.
Most of these cars were from before GM "reformed", so to speak; they were designed before the economic crisis. GM is now throwing punches at the German luxury brands with Cadillac and doing pretty well at it. The Corvette offers superior performance to a 911 at a fraction of the price (and now with a proper interior).
Why does your government keep alive this wreck of a manufacturer, when you could be encouraging other up and coming ones that could pave the way for the future.
With the new management being instated, I'm interested to see where the company will go in the next few years.
The Corvette offers superior performance to a 911
I have yet to see an average consumer consider these options.

Because if it's the former holy shit
