Chicago Public Schools to teach sex education at kindergarten, will cover same sex parents in course
Administrators with Chicago Public schools do not.
New to the curriculum this year, mandatory sexual and health education for kindergarten classes.
CBS 2’s Dorothy Tucker took at look at the lesson the little ones will be learning.
Like every other kindergartener, Angelina Yang is learning reading, writing, arithmetic–and now sexual health education.
“I want to know what kind of education she is receiving before she gets that education,” said Angelia’s mom, Stella. ‘As a parent, I have a right to know.”
CPS insists the curriculum will use language children understand and focus on topics like bullying, correct names for external body parts and the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching.
“As you identify body parts, you talk about should you be touched here or not.,” said Stephanie Whyte, the CPS Chief Health Officer. “And if someone touches you, and it’s uncomfortable, you should tell a trusted adult.”
“I’m OK with it,” said parent Ayesha Ahmad. “I’d like to believe it’s not necessary, but I think our culture dictates you can’t start early enough.”
Students will also take a look at the different family structures that exist in today’s society.
“Whether that means there’s two moms at home, everyone’s home life is different, and we introduce the fact that we all have a diverse background, “ said Whyte
Hm? I guess you could wait till some of them are actually hitting puberty. Maybe a program like this could prevent alot of sexual abuse.
There should be two courses. One against abuse for kindergarten/pre-school and one to inform tweens of the consequences of sex.

yeah, see nothing with that, its a pretty good idea
This is a pretty positive thing. I can't even make jokes about this. . .it just needs to happen.
isn't this going to promote kids to try this with eachother though? And don't say they won't already, because most kids that age aren't even thinking that way and are staying away from cooties.

On what level do you think this is going to lie? This is stuff like "nobody is allowed to touch you down there", not "here are the best beginner positions".

They start teaching reverse cowgirl in 2nd grade
'Remember kids, its goes in the pink, not the brown!'
They already do that in schools though
not well enough
I don't know if this is appropriate to teach children at such a young age. Heck, I didn't even understand that women couldn't have penises until a few years later.
Like I'm all for making the idea of same sex marriage more comfortable with them, but sexual education for 6 year olds seems kinda weird...
And I'm 100% for teaching them the whole "You can't touch me there" thing. But I think this idea might push the boundaries of what little kids can comprehend...

It still is a massive improvement for the sex education in USA though.

You say it like it's a good thing that you had a complete lack of understanding of female anatomy?
I say the earlier you teach children about these sorts of things, the earlier they can start to protect themselves and make good choices.
It's about time. It's long overdue that the course was reformed in both age intention, and content. I mean, there will inevitably be some people up in arms about this, but at least it's not being neglected anymore.

What's wrong with pushing boundaries? If you introduce these things to people at an early age, they won't be more open regarding it in the future.

racist
Here, we basically don't have Sex Ed, my year have done 2 hour long sessions in year 9 and that's it. Which really is too little too late don't you think?
Ooh and by the way, of those two sessions 1 hour and 45 minutes was people laughing at the word "penis" and if not that, "vagina"
this is not a good thing, as places with sex education have more teen pregnancies
Correlation doesn't mean causation. The first paragraph of that article: "Teenage pregnancies have risen fastest in areas of the country where the Government has specifically targeted resources to reduce them, a new survey has revealed."
This seems to mean that teen pregnancies were already rising in those areas. Looking at the publications page of Family Education Trust they seem vehemently anti informative sex ed. I'm guessing this is a biased study, but I'll never know because these shitlords want me to pay money for their book.
