After Giants’ World Series Win, San Francisco Erupts in Riots
San Francisco is spotted with fires, vandalism and violence tonight; and the social web is showing us every gruesome detail.
Thanks to a few live streams and some citizen journalism, we’re finding out a lot more about the current state of San Francisco than traditional media would usually afford us.
The city’s baseball team, the Giants, won the World Series earlier this evening; it’s taken almost no time for the city’s ordinarily peaceful citizens to erupt in wild, rowdy and ultimately dangerous celebration.
While some people on the web are joking about hashtags and Foursquare “SFRiot” checkins, others are listening to a live stream of the city’s police scanner. If you’d like to tune in, click this link, which will allow you to download a playlist containing the stream.
So far, we’ve heard unbelievable but nonetheless true stories: There aren’t (yet) enough police to control the crowds, and available officers are improvising as best they can.
Still, crowds are surrounding and attacking police (at least one one officer may be down), store windows are being broken, citizens are found unconscious, cars and at least one bus have been set on fire. From the scanner alone, we are being shown a picture of utter mayhem.
Jesus christ.

Sports are obviously serious business.

Having a few sports fanatics in my family, I can easily understand how people could react this way. It's fucking retarded, but I can see it happening.
YEAH WE WON, SO LETS TRASH OUR TOWN.
Only in America.
If only Buffalo won any thing... :sigh:
We would most likely burn down Miami, and then go back, and eat Sahlens hotdogs while playing, "We Are The Champions"
Not so hippy anymore SanFran, eh?

You've apparently never seen sport riots in Europe. You'd think a war broke out.
Now imagine if they lost..
I'm listening to the radio signals now, anyone hear can explan some of the jargon they use? I heard something about a package being transported.
Reminds me of the Fifa World Cup when there was a huge fight in spain

Don't some football players get killed in England for losing sometimes too?

sorry dude, she's probably dead.
Gay rage!
I'm here in San Fran and the hipsters who have no idea what's baseball or who the Giants are, are rioting too.
Not so hippy anymore SanFran, eh?
It's no longer about "make love not war", It's all about the civil disobedience now.
Do you except, San Francisco, you babies, learn to lose.
People that take sports super seriously are hilarious.
Do you except, San Francisco, you babies, learn to lose.
They're rioting because they won.
Had they lost after being up 3-1, with their tragic team history, mass suicide would have occurred instead.
It's just baseball, like any other sport, you hit a ball that someone throws at you, and people rage over that when some team wins?. I thought sport was fun.... :smug:

A significant part of the fun in watching sports are the riots afterwords.
Thank god my team never wins anything.
Why do they call it the World Series, when only America competes?
Why do they call it the World Series, when only America competes?
Originally it was sponsored by a Newspaper Called "the World" and even after they went out of business the name stuck, so as you can see its not because they are egotistical.
Why do they call it the World Series, when only America competes?
Who cares?
Also, it's not only American teams that participate; the Toronto Blue Jays, a Canadian team, also has played in the World Series.
Why do they call it the World Series, when only America competes?
Apparently, because it involves the best people from all over the world that were brought into their team. So when it's the final bracket, it's called the World series, because there's only 2 teams left full of people from around the world.
So basically, it's not just people directly from America that play in MLB, there's people from Asia, Mexico, etc.

I'm pretty sure that's an urban myth.
There is no confirmed theory. Both ours are mythologically equal. However, I did forgot to add that it was just a theory.
