So, how late was your train? The 07.29 Brighton to London Victoria service has made headlines as the worst in Britain, after failing to roll in at its scheduled time of 8.35am on a single occasion last year. It may be little consolation to those trundling slowly through Sussex to know their train may not be the absolute worst: neither Network Rail, the Department for Transport or the rail regulator have those figures to hand. It was left to angry commuters to ask train operator Southern to research and confirm the anecdotal suspicion that this particular service never actually ran to schedule, which, to their credit, they did.
According to the official standard, though, the 07.29 slowcoach was only late 73% of the time. That is because punctuality, for commuter services, is officially defined as up to 4 minutes and 59 seconds behind time. On long distance services, there’s an extra five minutes leeway. Compensation is normally only paid for delays six times the lateness threshold, at a minimum of 20% of the fare for an hour’s delay, though you get 50% back for 30-minute wait on Southern.
Took me a while to realise why this was being rated late, I am a dumb git.
Southern are shit, not very surprising.

What are you talking about? Those Coastway trains are brilliant. They feature inadequate seating, no air conditioning, no sound proofing, no toilets, and quite often look and smell like a tramp's hat, all for the same price as any newer train on the line.
People can afford to use the trains?

The Brighton - Eastbourne line is the only one I've not had a problem with.
If you want to go West from Brighton that is a whole different story.
Don't even get me started on when they put this shitty train on

Having a railcard or booking well in advance makes it somewhat reasonable.

I had to commute from Worthing to Portsmouth last year and after about a month of getting those shitty trains I decided to add an extra 15 minutes to my journey just so I could catch two nicer trains.
I have taken this train many times
I am inclined to agree

They can be ungodly expensive though. Case in point: trains departing from Manchester Airport (and presumably other airports as well) are bloody expensive. Had to pay 20 quid for a 1 hour journey today. That's not too cool.

thought this was to Manchester Victoria not London
been getting a Northern train on the Liverpool-Manchester line for about 8 months now and I think it's been on time maybe 5 times (i'm not even exaggerating)

It looks like an old man who has seen too many terrible things.
Southwestern are by far the worst overall. They close the lines when an international match is playing at Twickenham for goodness sake. Just go along with your plan SouthWest Trains. Get rid of the rails and make the lines the longest bus lanes in Britain. You're not far off.
This reminds of a bus I took to college that was ALWAYS late.
I mentioned this to my cousins (who are 20 years older than me) who lived their youth in the same area as me and they went
"Oh yeah. We took the same bus and it was never on time."
The buses of that line also had no air conditioning or it was always turned off. People were passing out during summer when it was packed full. Imagine sitting inside a glass-cube with sun shining in all the way home, standing in a bus that was so full you couldn't turn your head, while it's +28C outside. Fucking awful.

Lel, reminds me of line 50 here during the summer, the bus is always the shittiest, dirtiest one, full of various yokels and gypsies from the 3-digit lines, while it's +35C outside thanks to the climate becoming fucked. Shit, if you put a piece of coal there it would come out a diamond because how many people are in it, except it would smell like sweat, piss, dog shit and dust
Over here (Sydney) we still have quite a few of these around:
