Why does he insist on posting these long videos instead of actually sitting down and editing it to a 5 minute video of all he wanted to say, straightforward and to the point.
Because this makes more money- Youtube (at least Youtube Red, I believe he namedropped that) does ad revenue on how long people watch your videos. Longer videos, thus, get more money than, say, a 2 minute animation that took a month to make. It's kinda fucked up that way, though at least his fans enjoy his content.

Unless he literally reads a set of outline notes, it'd take longer to write out a summarized script than it does to just ramble for 30 minutes. Its also nice to hear him ramble away about everything rather than try to sum it up to its barebones, and I'm sure he realizes that. Considering the majority of his videos are him rambling for 15-60 minutes and his own limiting health condition, there's not really a reason to drastically change it up now. Punctual videos have never been his style and they more than likely never will be.
I enjoy how in depth he goes. After watching the video in its entirety I totally agree with him. Microsoft won due to their pro consumer approach with Xbox and pc support. Sony had really nothing to win over new consumers at all and just showed games that aren't coming this year but they did manage to show tons of games and keep people entertained. No risk no reward type deal here.

It's legit less effort and less money, makes me feel bad for the guys that fully script and edit out editorials that say more in 10 mins than he can say in 40.
I like listening to his voice to be honest.

he did this before the youtube ad revenue changed to make longer videos worth more.
I don't mind Sony and Microsoft hitting this divergent path. It's about damn time after they've basically been slapping back and forth for the past decade to try to one-up eachother, but Microsoft can't just magically catch up in sales to the Playstation 4 despite modest efforts in doing so, and Sony needs to make a profit despite their success because they really need the money.

That's where microsoft is strong though. Now that they have both the console and pc market, there's really no more need to compare sales figures. Microsoft has a wider range now than ever before, and sony isn't offering anything similar.

I wouldn't say they 'have' the PC market seeing as they still have exclusive games sold on their OS-built store going up against the likes of Steam, Origin and Good Old Games simultaneously.

I think it's pretty nice to have something podcast like to listen to in the background.

What I mean by that is they have their exclusives now on the PC market (which sony does not), which a lot of pc gamers are going to want to get their hands on. I've already been playing Killer Instinct, and I know for a fact I'm interested in Horizon 3 and dead rising, so I'll be picking those up on the widows store. And I welcome more platforms to buy games on. Steam shouldn't have a monopoly on the market, and I personally enjoy using windows 10 and other platforms for games. And Xbox's play anywhere program opens up the opportunity for PC and console players to play co-op together in gears, forza, and more.
Sony simply cannot compete in that regard unless they release their exclusives on PC on steam or other services. Microsoft has really been doing more innovation, and that's why their conference was more promising than sony's in my opinion.
My only concern is bad ports, which hopefully with the release of KI, gears 1, and quantum break, they can work out all the kinks and get good ports out the moment of release.
I can usually listen to this while I walk around naked brushing my teeth and texting in the morning.
It's how I role.
Honestly, it seems to me that Microsoft has seen what Valve was trying to do with the Steam Machines, and realized that is the future of consoles, not the current generational bullshit we've got going on right now, so now their pivoting into that idea.
