Honestly, I can't say I'm on board with the idea of (apparently) making Shelob at least have the illusion of a human body. Especially one with the capability of using rings of power.
Shelob is an incredibly compelling character as a Great Spider. She didn't need a human form to be interesting, and honestly, I think the human-form of her is anything [i]but[/i] interesting.
Keeping her as a giant, eternally-hungry sapient spider that you have to humor in order to gain passage or help would have been a decision I would be entirely on board with.

shadow of mordor didn't have a particularly great story so i frankly don't care if this one's story is a dumpster fire. as long as the gameplay is fun, i think it'll be a great game.

Isn't he in the unseen realm where things are different, like the Ringwraths have bodies. It's possible that being a daughter of Ungoliant, Shelob could have some sort of different form in that realm for the ability to change to suit her needs.
I guess the modelers and designers didn't want to have to rig a skeleton for a house-sized spider suitable for being a main characters. I can see where they're coming from, but [I]holy shit[/I] is this not going to earn any favors with anyone.
The sleazy neckbeards are going to get pissy because the dread brood of Ungoliant should stay as horrifying intelligent spiders, and the core audience dudebros are going to get creeped out because of the attempt to make a horrifying intelligent spider into something they'd want to pork.
