• Windows 10 build 9901 comes with Cortana
A new build of Windows 10 has leaked out as number 9901, with early versions of new consumer features in tow. The big news with this build is the presence of Cortana, as well as the new Xbox app. Cortana is part of the search interface, as demonstrated on video earlier this month. Apparently Cortana is only partially functional in this build, though interests, the notebook, and reminders can all be accessed. cool. hopefully this build releases some time in january [editline]14th December 2014[/editline] good to see microsoft is still insistent on keeping the vista install UI and decade old icons
I don't like how it takes up 15% of the task bar.

It changed with Windows 8, in pretty sure. And you wouldn't expect them to care about the install UI at this point anyway, we're still far from RTM or even RCs.
I don't like how it takes up 15% of the task bar.
I'm guessing it will be adjustable, or reducible to an icon only. Like other icons, it should be able to be disabled completely
Xbox app, huh? I wonder if they'll be positioning Xbox as a competitor program to Steam eventually (like a GFWL that doesn't suck), what with all that platform integration they're doing. Like going backwards from the Steambox to Steam the program.
is microsoft any better with speech recognition than in the past?

Which I believe had it's own thread
Oh damn, I get a lot of use out of cortana on my phone so this is pretty rad
I really don't like that start button logo. It's asymmetry is really bugging me for some reason.
Sounds nothing like Cortana, kinda disappointed.
I really don't like that start button logo. It's asymmetry is really bugging me for some reason.
It's a window viewed at an angle.
It's a window viewed at an angle.
And it's awful!
I really don't like that start button logo. It's asymmetry is really bugging me for some reason.
It's the same as Windows 8.1's
Sounds nothing like Cortana, kinda disappointed.
It is a combination of Jenn Taylor and algorithms You are generating words from a sound bank after all Did a fair job though

That having been said, it does a great job of voice recognition for about 95% of the commands I give it, which is nice. I hope it comes with Office integration - imagine how nice (or catastrophic) it would be to have a voice activated slide presentation. "Cortana, next slide" "Cortana, highlight cells E5 through E12 and give background color of yellow".

"Cortana, turn into a bridge"
Was expecting a naked Cortana on the desktop like those old desktop stripper apps that were filled with viruses. 2/10.
This was cool when they put her on Windows phone. Now they're just trying to lure people to buy Windows 10.
This was cool when they put her on Windows phone. Now they're just trying to lure people to buy Windows 10.
Windows phone will be running windows 10 ........your point?
This was cool when they put her on Windows phone. Now they're just trying to lure people to buy Windows 10.
So putting her on WP wasn't "luring" people? Do you think a halo reference holds that much weight, considering the market for windows, that they use it to "lure" people to their platform with it?
Windows 10 Preview The only thing they changed was the title bar and background, the process of installation and the general appearance is still the same (those 'aero' style buttons look awful now).
Fair enough I was wrong.
Windows phone will be running windows 10 ........your point?
lol no it won't
Why would anyone want this?
Not bad. If they sell it for a lump sum like they always have, let me disable Cortana(I'll never use her and in fact don't even own a mic for my desktop), and leave the UI alone I might very well swap over to W10 someday. [editline]14th December 2014[/editline]
Why would anyone want this?
Some people like being able to just tell their computer to do things. Other people seem to think it's easier to shout your search query into the mic four times rather than just type it out(My roomy does this with his android phone, drives me nuts), others will use it for presentations and note recording and such. It has its uses.
lol no it won't
*cough* *cough*
Why have an option to disable cortana when the only place she'll be in is search, hell she is only activated when you press the blue button or if you say "cortana" (idk if this already happens but wouldn't be surprised If it uses voice detection) Unpin search from the taskbar, congratulations you disabled it [editline]15th December 2014[/editline]
*cough* *cough*
iOS and Mac intertwine with each other, why can't windows? Hell even Google is linking android, chromeOS and its web apps under one roof Unity is the trend right now, if all your platforms are all over shop like windows is right now then nothing works
