SEATTLE (AP) — Some police agencies in Washington, including the state patrol, are now training drug-sniffing dogs to ignore marijuana. After voters in November legalized the possession of small amounts of the drug, the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys advised police agencies to change their standards. TV station KOMO reports marijuana was removed from the police dog guidelines set by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. The prosecuting attorneys' association also told police that an "alert" from drug-sniffing dog that had been trained to find marijuana is no longer enough evidence for a search warrant. Police will need other evidence, at least until the old dogs retire.
Source: http://www.mynews3.com/entertainment/weirdnews/story/Some-K9s-trained-to-ignore-pot-in-Washington/A8OIlkLKBUmhGCIRTYftBw.cspx So old dogs are essentially useless because they could trigger a search based on a legal substance. Just like in Massachusetts, the smell alone isn't grounds to search because it's decriminalized.
ohh i get it because its ca-nine. ha

My Doctor Who obsession is sadly making me first think of this when I read these things: [thumb]http://help.admin.mtu.edu/docs/images/6/6c/K9_01.jpg[/thumb]
That kind of reminds me of the Hound from Fahrenheit 451.
Come to think of it, I pictured that Hound as sorta-resembling K9 when I read the book.
It would be very easy to retrain the dog to still detect Marijuana but to act differently (aka bark instead of sit) versus training them to not recognize it at all.
It would be very easy to retrain the dog to still detect Marijuana but to act differently (aka bark instead of sit) versus training them to not recognize it at all.
But why? It's legal there now. There's no reason for them to detect it any more than detecting coffee.
But why? It's legal there now. There's no reason for them to detect it any more than detecting coffee.
Because it'd be easier to train them to react differently than it would be to shut up about it.
Come to think of it, I pictured that Hound as sorta-resembling K9 when I read the book.
I pictured it as a spidery sort of thing with a metallic oval shaped body, and a bunch of thin metal legs coming out of the sides, skittering silently across the ground
ohh i get it because its ca-nine. ha
obviously high as shit

It had eight legs and needles on its head. Fuckin' scary shit.
