The story behind Gojira is something I struggle to explain to people but they just don't understand the basics of an allegory
Amazed Zillamaster didn't post this
A little disappointed he didn't elaborate more on Shin-Gojira. It really is a return-to-form of the 'Godzilla as an allegory' theme that the original uses.
Spot on once again. It's stuff like Godzilla that always makes me look for the original of anything, I can't stand how much perspective and meaning was lost in the Americanized version.
That BF1 jab was really, really unnecessary.

The original cut was one of the first "underground" things I had ever seen, and so I started checking out other japanese stuff in the raw. Got me some second language skills and very sincere appreciation of "show, don't tell", which still forms the backbone of my creative output to this day.

He could have used a wide array of different games, movies, and whatever other form of media to make his point, but he chose BF1 because it's topical and an easy jab. A WW2 or Ganster flick from around the same era would've been a better fit for the context, as it would give another example that directly relates to both the point he's making and the subject of the rest of the video.

I don't get why it's a big deal and like you said yourself, it's topical, especially in light of the #JustWW1Things bit they did. It'd be like bringing up the presidency and getting mad because someone talked about Trump because it's topical instead of like William Howard Taft. I get the point that it was an easy choice to make but it lasted all of five seconds, why not just go for easy and relevant?
I honestly didn't know the original was so... different. By the way I absolutely loved the water-color kind of artstyle he had going with this.

Your waifu is not above criticism. Nothing is above criticism. Perhaps you should consider he's making a rather salient point about cultural sanitization still occurring in this very day and age.
