• Congress passes bill to temporarily avert government shutdown
    26 replies, posted
Congress approved a short-term measure Friday to keep the government funded for another week, a move that gives lawmakers more time to reach a deal on a larger spending package. The measure now heads to the president's desk for his signature. The spending stopgap measure comes as House members prepare to leave Washington without a vote on the GOP health care bill, denying President Trump a major legislative victory in his first 100 days in office. The spending bill capped off a frenzied week on Capitol Hill that underscored the trouble Republicans have had fulfilling both the most basic functions of governance and implementing their ambitious agenda with GOP control of both the White House and Congress.
denying President Trump a major legislative victory in his first 100 days in office.
Man rules purely by decree. What a useless, useless "President".
They pushed it by... a week? Trump's 100th day is marked by his government passing a funding bill that extends the government for a week? So they can work out an actual budget next week? Trump said his election would see America run like he runs his businesses, but his government seems to be running it like high school, including begging the teacher for extra time to turn in late assignments even though every weekend was spent fucking off.
Remember when people said electing a businessman would be great for the country because he would run it like a business? Here's the end result - a country completely paralyzed policy wise, its lawmakers divided against themselves, with a drooling idiot at the helm who whines about being hard done by and says 'he had it better before his election' instead of growing a pair to actually govern, listen to good advice, and not be a dumbass, but his monumental ego prevented any of this shit from happening at all. His impeachment would be the best thing to happen, the sooner the better, and preferably let it be on treason charges.
Good. If the words of its proponents were anything to go by, the initial concepts for the budget were a disaster. Frustrating though that Congress appears to prioritize passing the AHCA (though it is necessary) over passing a budget.

When you have control over both parts of congress and the presidency and you have 8 years to prepare this is what happens right
This is actually amazing. The GOP is the majority party. They basically have full control of the entire government. And they still can't pass a budget. This isn't like when the Democrats had a split position, with the GOP controlling the House and the Dems controlling the Senate, and we were being strung along on week-by-week funding bills. The GOP owns the government right now. They can do whatever they want, and we're still looking at a potential shutdown because they're afraid of the backlash they'd face if they passed the budget they want. Outstanding.
I too want nobody in this nation to have healthcare.
because thats what he said lol
I was genuinely looking forward to the government shutting down on Trump's 100th day. Oh well. This still confirm that it's the Republicans, and by extension, conservatives that can't get it up. Even with a super majority, the government fails to function. Imagine what it would be like if a competent party were in power.
Incredible that this party has all levels of government in control and still can't get anything done
because thats what he said lol
If Republicare goes through its inevitable end is a minuscule portion of Americans even being able to afford adequate healthcare.
Incredible that this party has all levels of government in control and still can't get anything done
Well, the party that has the government isn't the party that wants to get things done. It's literally their name. Conservatives don't want change. The status quo of disfunction is apparently what they're happy with.
because thats what he said lol
Doesn't really matter does it? The result of Trumps budget going forward is he's going back on his promises and he's removing healthcare from millions

I suspect they were getting real cozy being able to just bitch about the Democrats and scream about how terrible Obama is and were fully expecting another eight years to do the exact same thing It is the only explanation I can come up for them being this fucking unprepared that doesn't involve writing the whole lot off as brainless prats

It means if negotiations fail and it does shut down they have until the 15th to figure something out.
I too want nobody in this nation to have healthcare.
Until yesterday the AHCA actually let members of congress keep their health care with the current rules (rates can't be raised do to pre-existing conditions, ect.). The Republicunts only removed it once people found out and bitched at them in an attempt to raise support for their shitty bill.

Last year, my state held a several-week long special session just to agree on a budget. At taxpayers' expense, of course.
This shit isn't uncommon. Last year, my state held a several-week long special session just to agree on a budget. At taxpayers' expense, of course.
Oh, I'm aware that these kind of things are starting to become common. It's that they got an extension by a week. And technically they've got two weeks before they can't write paychecks to anyone (including the military), but let me remind everyone that this administration has a legislative majority and they're still unable to pass a budget. Then again, this Republican majority government has basically been unable to do anything except try and tear down Obama's legacy, and that's primarily via Trump's executive orders, some of which are not actually within his power to order. And there's a huge payment due in the fall for mandatory funding on things like I think pensions... so unless the budget going in now takes that into account, we might be doing this all over again in six months through sheer incompetence and disorganization. But it's hard to predict what anything will be like in six months if the first three months of President Trump are anything to go by. Meanwhile Trump takes vacations every weekend, still wants to receive asspats over winning the election six months ago, and complains that his job is too haaaaard.

I don't think either party is capable of governing. All they do is fight each other

Conservation, food safety, healthcare, insurance, not to mention their wrangling of the economy to try and recover from the recession. They had a supermajority for a little over a year, but then Scott Brown was elected as a Republican, and that ended it. All in all, they did a good job. Could've been better, but they were absolutely capable of governing. To say otherwise isn't fair. They were indisputably better than the Republicans were... but then again, that's like being the smartest kid with Down syndrome.
Obama and the democratic party actually passed legislation in the first 100 days of Obama's term
