On the same night that millions of votes were pouring in for the real estate mogul turned politician, the page linking to his December 2015 statement was removed. The page now redirects to a page encouraging voters to donate to his campaign.
//can some mod add marks to the disappears? 'disappears' just like that. apparently the statement still exists in the website however it's hidden from it [thumb]https://snag.gy/SXQat9.jpg[/thumb] http://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/673993417429524480 https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/donald-j.-trump-statement-on-preventing-muslim-immigration
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
Is it really a surprise to you that Trump will infact not be deporting millions of people? It's not even "backpedaling" as much as its him being cornered about his lies and now he has to give them up.

He made them feel vindicated in their beliefs and justified their racist rhetoric.
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
I don't see why people are complaining about this...like this is one of the things people were up in arms about and now he is changing it. Dude is damned regardless of what he does? I honestly don't believe a lot of Americans supported his ban of muslims because most of the website that did polls only had a pool of like 5k people and half supported that measure. So basically 2.5k people supported it based of off some of the polls which is nothing. I highly doubt anyone who voted for him will be upset but the small minority of racists.
Why are people upset about this? "this orange guy said really mean and damaging things, and now that he's being put in a leadership position, he's becoming more moderate and trying to fix what he's said" i'm no trump supporter but literally what do you want? him to continue trying to ban muslims?

If he backpedals, he'll have set a precedent that you just need to lie to get what you want, and his supporters who WANTED it will feel betrayed.
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
Hopefully as much as possible. I'm not complaining.

People make promises to get in to office and often do not fulfill them. Its just a simple fact that is sad, but I can honestly live knowing this promise was a lie and will never become reality. I'm going to laugh when he actually turns out to be a alright person and drops the terrible ideas he has. I think with the wealth of info he will have access to and some of the people that he works with things will normalize and not be as extreme as people originally think.

Trump is a charismatic idiot. Pence is a cruel man pushing an agenda.
He also refused to answer a direct question about it earlier. I wish I could provide the exact context, but it was on the radio while driving. In the clip, many reporters are asking him questions, he calls out one, the others fall silent. The reporter he called out asks him, "will you be banning Muslims from the United States? (may not be verbatim)" Donald Trump immediately replies, "Thanks for coming out, that's all" (Again, may not be verbatim) He definitely seems to be stepping back from this particular point, and seems to want to avoid drawing attention to that.

This was a major tenant of his campaign. If he's backing off this, then what else might he back off from? Or, more disconcertingly, what might he have under exaggerated, or even simply failed to say? At the end of the day, nobody really knows what to expect from Trump. His own campaign promises are hollow and meaningless. For those of us wringing our hands about his presidency, it's very curious. We aren't sure how to feel about it. For his supporters, I imagine it is (or should be) a little irritating. Unless you voted for the man on the explicit understanding that none of his stated policies held any actual meaning, he appears to simply be ignoring many of his own promises and moving on with whatever plan of action he feels like right now. [editline]11th November 2016[/editline]
it might be his staff telling him to shut up about it or he used it to get people excited we may never know really
Not until we see what he does, at any rate.
Maybe he lied about everything is actually a really cool guy
Every is now legally permitted free icecream trump now best president ever since Washington
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
I would honestly be okay with trump backpedeling as much as he can. Its either he backpedels or goes through with it.
Maybe he lied about everything is actually a really cool guy
My aunt was thinking that he ran as conservative only to get votes, then when he gets into office he'll turn liberal. Truly 8D solitaire.
Still though, this is a good thing. Muslims don't deserve to get banned due to their freedom of religion. They're protected from the government due to the First Amendment. Maybe Trump really isn't as exactly bad in the popular way.
I believe I saw later that it was put back on the website
My aunt was thinking that he ran as conservative only to get votes, then when he gets into office he'll turn liberal. Paul Ryan said a while ago that Trump's deportation idea wouldn't even get through Congress and couldn't see it ever happening.
Why are people upset about this? What's wrong with preventing emigration from countries rife with terrorism and deporting illegal immigrants? I just want to know what is the reason a lot of people are outraged.
Paul Ryan said a while ago that Trump's deportation idea wouldn't even get through Congress and couldn't see it ever happening.
It was pretty much impossible. Try to mass deport millions of innocent people that build their lives here and you will yourself hanging on a tree.
Backpedaling already? I wonder what else he was just saying to get elected then.
Everything he said in his entire campaign was to get elected. He could potentially backpedal on anything that isn't on his cabinet's agenda. The only issue Trump is probably invested in is the tax code and stuff like that. With Pence and the other shitheads on board there's a limit to how far he can pull back from the right, or else they wouldn't have helped him get elected.
What's wrong with preventing emigration from countries rife with terrorism and deporting illegal immigrants?
Because it's only very very veeeery slightly more accurate than banning immigration from people who drink water?
I don't think the number of illegal immigrants in america is as high as you think it is.
I don't think the number of illegal immigrants in america is as high as you think it is.
30 million isn't it? edit: actually I think it's 10m
30 million isn't it? edit: actually I think it's 10m
around 11 million immigrants that pay about 12 billion$ in taxes every year people who think that they just sit around, take jobs people want, don't contribute, or just cause crime don't know much about them at all. Sure, theres increased rates of crime, but that's mostly because they're fearful of going to police because they aren't legal. Most simply overstay work visa's because they find that America is a lot better than wherever they came from, but the line to get papers takes decades.
around 11 million immigrants that pay about 12 billion$ in taxes every year
But doesn't he only want to deport illegal immigrants?
