This video is more about debate moderation and how fact checking and challenging claims is failing us in current news networking.

Wallace's allegation that his job isn't to be a "truth squad" is an indictment against Fox News, the press at large, and probably a good indication of why our two viable choices for president are between two people that more voters regard as untrustworthy than not.
What baffles me is how "lies and bullshit" can be Trump's currency and yet he has a reputation for being the truthful candidate who "tells it how it is". It's insane, I mean Trump supporters seem to acknowledge both, but it seems like an oxymoron to me. At least we all know and acknowledge Clinton lies and call it a day there.

he's loud and confident, which is not something we've had for a very long time, so i guess people want that? he's just loudly angry and confident in his xenophobia and arrogance.

One of Obama's well-known attributes is his more conciliatory tone - whether it's right-wingers mad at the "apologizer-in-chief" or Key & Peele riffing about him needing an "anger translator". Trump is a stark contrast to that with his brash tone (even though his words are empty), so people who dislike Obama because "all he does is kowtow to other countries, talk shamefully about America's past, cut military spending, and make us look weak" are drawn to that. Look at how big of a deal it was when Trump asserted that neither Obama nor Clinton was willing to say "radical Islam".
The most abhorrent thing to me here is the fact that news reporters say they aren't "truth squads"
So you're telling me that you reserve the right to lie to my damn face on national television and take absolutely no responsibility for the message you're sending and STILL expect the network to be a reputable source for world information??
are you fucking kidding me?!?!?!?!?!
If there is one thing the news is for is GETTING ITS FUCKING FACTS STRAIGHT.
If you're not going to do that then get the fuck off the air waves.
a reputation for being the truthful candidate who "tells it how it is".
'telling it like it is' isn't so much about being accurate as it is being reactionary and bold. He'll speak his mind, which means he's totally ready to give an opinion, but that doesn't mean it's factually accurate so much as it is just popular with the viewer.
Like to make a (rather polarized general example), he can blame illegal mexicans on rates of rape in the US, and people who are racist about mexicans over ill-connected theories about taking jobs and causing crime will be thrilled a politician is speaking their minds for them on the grand stage. It doesn't make any of them right, but they feel like they are and appreciate the voice being given to their unpopular opinions

There isn't a single trump supporter I know who thinks he actually lies?
Not sure where you got that from.
People like trump because he appeals to the lowest common denominator, represents wealth in american capitalism (that must mean he's hardworking and will make my taxes lower right??), and doesn't talk or act like a politician, he talks like a "git er' done"-er
When you distill all the fluff that is literally the majority of the platform every trump supporter I know holds their base on.
