Sprint is said to be preparing its official offer to purchase smaller rival T-Mobile US. Bloomberg reports that Sprint executives have met with up to six banks in recent months to make sure that financial details around the potential deal are solid when it formally puts in a bid. The merger has been rumored for months, with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son routinely expressing interest in T-Mobile; he's apparently already tested the waters and held early talks with regulators.
That could not end well.
No, please no.
We're switching from Sprint to T-Mobile after 18 years because they can't get their shit together in my area. Dropped calls with good to excellent signal, not receiving texts from specific people for a day or so at a time, and bad prices. Plus we get 15% off T-Mobile for working for the city.
Boy I can't wait 'till the next government mandated monopoly breakup!
can we not have only three mega-corps in the world please? Competition is a nice thing.
2014. The year of the merge.
Can every fucking company stop trying to buy another fucking company please? Jesus.

Exactly the problem I have. Data is dodgy too, on a good to excellent signal I can have no data at all; Or a poor to no signal on a sunny day without a cloud in the sky.
well at least it's not at&t
There should be a law that prevents you from getting into business if you care too much about money

You mean like the reason to start a business?
I just don't understand their mobile networks aren't even compatible.

Sprint has just been going downhill lately. If this merger happens, they better have some major improvements. I can't get 4G in a lot of areas in Hawthorne, California (about 10 miles southwest of LA).
The government will shut this down, it's literally no different from when AT&T tried to in 2011.

"Sprint Nextel also announced its opposition to the merger. Sprint said the deal would severely reduce competition in the United States cell phone industry."
Almost can't fucking believe it.
well at least it's not at&t
sprint is just as bad
Everyone has quarrels with each mobile carrier. It's one spotty network picking up another spotty network to maybe even possibly be on the same type of coverage that ATT and Verizon has. I doubt this will even go through.

Money is a great incentive for development of technology, goods and services and the distribution of them. But these telecommunication companies are just basically sitting in pools of money and instead of investing it in improvement of service/expansion, they just start buying more companies to get more money. the regulations set for them are way too vague and have too many loopholes they can use to avoid having to expand their coverage and upgrade their infraestructure and so they can get away with it. just read this on Verizon: http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/14/5716802/game-of-phones-how-verizon-is-playing-the-fcc-and-its-customers

There's a difference between making and earning money, and hoarding it
This may be approved, actually. Depends on if anyone believes Sprints argument that two smaller companies combining would be better at competing against AT&T and Verizon.
T-Mobile is doing a great job at getting customers right now. This would be a step backwards.
Boy I can't wait 'till the next government mandated monopoly breakup!
As if that will ever happen.
T-Mobile has really nice options for travelers with unlocked phone. Sprint would probably screw it up.
WHY.
Sprint's and T-Mobile's networks aren't even compatible!
This is insane.
First DIRECTV gets bought by "ma bell". and Now Sprint, wants to buy the last "ok" cell phone company? Just great.
Say goodbye to competition.
Legere's just gonna decline right off the bat.
I just don't understand their mobile networks aren't even compatible.
Actually, for what they want it for it is.
LTE is a GSM only technology. Sprint has the short end of the stick with LTE because they're a CDMA based network, like Verizon. Unlike Verizon they developed a CDMA based 4G technology first (WiMax) which, to be fair was fantastic and better than HSPA+, but expensive to roll out.
Sprint wants to buy T-Mobile for their GSM network so they can instantly piggyback off T-Mobile's network to balloon out their LTE, and they want T-Mobile's owned frequencies to work on their adaptive LTE network.
So basically this is actually a good thing. T-Mobile customers will get true unlimited data downloads on their mobile network, and will more than likely be able to continue to use their GSM phones on T-Mobile and AT&T's network. Sprint will gain a huge leap forward for LTE Deployment, and T-Mobile's existing network will be merged with Sprint's to bring better voice and data services to both customer bases.

Actually the FCC/Government probably won't give much of a shit. They shut down AT&T/T-Mobile merger because it would have made them THE LARGEST cell provider in the nation (105m + 34m subscribers = 140m subs, 25m more than Verizon). But Sprint and T-Mobile are the two smallest. Even if tehy merged they'd still be about 20 million less than AT&T.
T-Mobile won't take it without guarantee of autonomy. T-Mobile holds themselves in high esteem for sticking to GSM standards even in the US.
It's a holdover from being owned by the German government. They don't have the pure profit interest to take a straight buyout. I guarantee management won't change much. This could be a good thing, but only if it's handled very, very carefully.
You do realize Deutsche Telekom WANTS to get rid of T-Mobile USA right?
THEY approached AT&T back in 2011 to have AT&T buy TMUSA. They want to pull out of the American Market. As long as they get what the company is worth they'll sell without a second thought.

Wow, I feel so bad for you guys, my phone can get a high speed signal in the middle of bum fuck nowhere.
Oh good, it's only T-Mobile US.
[editline]19th May 2014[/editline]
The normal T-Mobile is not necessarily a good carrier here though.

Consider the size disparity of our nations, though. The United Kingdom is about as big as some of America's medium to larger sized states. We could fit 40 United Kingdoms in the US and have room to spare. So it costs considerably more for our carriers to develop complete coverage for our country than yours.
As it stands I'm pretty sure total landmass covered by any one of our carriers is still more than the UK. Not waving my dick or anything just pointing out the fact that you can't necessarily compare the two.

All branches of DTAG(the parent company of T-Mobile and T-Com) are absolutely horrible in here. People constantly get router failures and unstable connections on the T-Com deals, while the T-Mobile contracts are mediocre at best.
