My Brilliant Idea - General

We need to have planned cities where the entire city has a theme and the people live a certain way. For instance, we could found an entire city/region where people live just like they did in the western frontier in the 1800s. Or an entire city/region where the people live just like they did during the American Revolution. Or perhaps an entire community where it's like the Roman Empire. Of course the communities would be made up of volunteers who want to live that lifestyle. Private sector companies can set up such communities, and they would make money off of tourists who want to go to the Old West for a vacation or something. It would also help us better understand and respect the people of those time periods and cultures. What do you think of my idea? No way, it sounds like a stupid idea, in my opinion. We have historical reenactments and such for a reason.

It wouldn't work. All of those ideas are from the past, and society is always advancing. People wouldn't be content staying in the past if they could potentially move forward. OP have you read all of the Transmetropolitan comics, they have this, but in awesomer ways.

I like the idea...But it wouldn't work. We have "replica' communities for a reason: i.e. see Old Salem or "Colonial" Jamestown. It's to provide an educational learning environment while experiencing it and having some fun, but for all seriousness, as in, a legit serious "Old West" town or serious "Roman" town...no. If they lived that way, would the people (now by todays standards) be lacking some of the basic essentials for life?

Firstly there would be no 'volunteers', because the best way of life is what we have now, and I doubt anyone would want to live without electricity. Secondly, these communities would be worthless moneywise. The money gained from tourism wouldn't be enough to replace the potential gain (for example they would grow way less crops, wouldn't generate any electricity, and wouldn't make things other people need). What drugs are you on?

Sounds like a theme park idea. Would love to experience a 1920s era and become a bootlegger though.
