Should be obvious, but contains some spoilers. Also, since the title of the video spoils what the Easter egg is, I'll link it for those who prefer to go into the game fresh.

Nice little scene by Naughty Dog; wonder how they got permission.

they developed it, and sony published it

Far as I knew, Activision bought the rights to Crash a long time ago, hence why we haven't seen one in a while.
:ninja:
I'm not sure what's better, the easter egg or the in-character commentary
Is this a cutscene, or playable?
Jesus, and I thought The New Order's easter eggs were cool.

Nobody does natural dialogue better than Naughty Dog. At least, none that I can think of.
Is this a cutscene, or playable?
Reasonably sure it's playable; I don't remember a points system in Crash Bandicoot. There's probably an alternate cutscene if Nate wins.
As far as I can tell, this is indeed a recreation and it isn't emulated. Mainly because the animations are a liiiiittle bit more stiff and simplified (see: Crash's legs in both his running and spin animation) as well as the fact that Uncharted needs to know what's going on in the Crash game to react accordingly with dialogue and onscreen instructions. Not to mention that the original game was never based on "score". So yeah, there's a very good chance that Naughty Dog probably dug through their files and reused some art assets that haven't been touched in a very long time.
Either way, this tribute is absolutely beautiful as it basically ties their rich history in a circle. To be honest, it's kind of insane to think that I remember playing Crash as a child myself and now in the future we're playing a game from the same developer in which their new flagship character plays their first in the game. I mean, that's just fantastic and surreal
Jesus, has it really been 21 years since the PS1

It's definitely entirely new animations, and even the physics aren't the same, like how the spin only destroyed one box at a time. The fact that they used the original assets and tried to make it look as PS1 as possible was great, but it's clear that the old Crash model was probably.. a bit difficult to animate again.
Oh fuck man I wish there was a way to decompile PS4 games, to take a look at exactly what's going on with this compared to the actual original game would be fascinating
Well now I wish I hadn't seen this. I would have crapped myself if I had seen it without knowing
Christ, their cutscenes get more and more gorgeous with each game.
Fuck.

While you are correct that this is a recreation, having the host know what's going on in the guest is entirely possible with emulators with the help of a memory map. This is how NES Remix works.
Y'know, its hard to think this isn't a PC game and is just PS4 game, it looks really pretty
Wonder what god forsaken place they had to dig that artifact out of?

I thought about this as I was writing, nice to have some confirmation! At any rate, the idea of them getting the idea to do a recreation like this is simply adorable. Game development is hard, but it's hard to imagine that this wasn't even slightly fun to do. It's so short but sweet.

That's not even the first level though, my immersion is ruined
But yeah this is definitely a recreation, a lot of little details are different (like the animations, and the hitboxes for the apples are definitely too small) but I wouldn't have noticed if I weren't looking for it, it's quite impressive
Kinda wish I hadn't watched that but christ that's brilliant
Their dialogue and animations were fantastic. The whole playable easter egg thing is awesome too.
"why is this boulder chasing me. i did nothing to this boulder."
goddamnit nate i love you
I should really play through 1-3 since I own them. Is it worth picking up the remastered version if I already have them on PS3?

the remastered version gives a couple cool features such as the better looking graphics (although not by much, but that 60fps mmm) and I got a surprising ammount of fun out of the photo mode, and if you can grab it for $30/$40 it's definitely worth it. haven't played much of the originals however, so take that as you will.
stop teasing me sony and release a new crash game
Really sucks that I'd have to buy a PS4 to play this :frown:.
Oh, whoa. Not a huge deal, but very interesting to see: 10:40 shows that the icon in the upper left "pops" in. Pretty neat to get a slightly better look since this video is slightly better in terms of quality.

Oh, ah... jeez. This recreation is still fantastic but it gets ever so slightly less accurate the more I pay attention :v:
I'm so hyped for Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog I love you
[editline]3rd May 2016[/editline]
My dad, who played Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 when it was out and nowadays just watches me play games on the PS4, is going to absolutely love this.
This killed me. I didn't see it coming not one bit.
Wonder if this means anything though. Crash is Activision property now. And the last I heard of it was that they didn't want to use it not one bit, even not permitting Sony to use him in All-Stars.
