I'm sure you remember these trailers for Witcher 2 and 3. They were made by Platige Image, polish film and animation studio specialized in motion-capture. A call for financing came today to Polish Film Institute (search for "Wiedźmin") with Oscar nominated Tomasz Bagiński mentioned as a director of the project. We know that they were interested in doing this for a long time, but right now we have a proof that some real work was done. Currently its uncertain whether this project will be a live-action production (it's not listed in "Animation" section) or an motion-capture film, but I'd bet my money on the latter one. PI recently opened an entire division dedicated to full feature animated films and this would be a great test for them. Besides we already had a live-action series about Witcher over ten years ago and it left a certain distaste...
Nothing to say but awesome, they're second to blizzards, gorgeous feeling to their work.
The infamous golden dragon.
I'd love it if they adapted some of the stories from the original novels, especially the ones involving Yennefer and Ciri.
Yep, let's hope this new Witcher movie is better than the series. Thankfully there's no Uwe Boll in this, right?
Will we be subjected to regular 10 second close-ups of Geralt as he slowly sips a potion?

The Last Wish is the best thing about the franchise.

Hopefully it will be a bit better than this...
Heh you may not enjoy Witcher 3 much then.
I'll play it and probably enjoy it, but the actual witchering parts and references to the novels are going to be my favorite. Playing on a high difficultly and carefully preparing for a hunt was the best thing about W2.
What I think I like best is the attention to such tiny details. Best example is in the Witcher 2 trailer, when that guy starts firing arrows in slowmo, the arrows actually wobble and such as they would in real life. It's such a small little thing but it's so nice.
Personally, I'm highly pleased the Eastern European/Russian gaming industry has, though slowly and over rocks, taken off. Compared to games produced in the western hemisphere, here in Middle-Earth there's a certain element of raw expression. There's much less yanking of people's emotions by the strings (or at least far less obvious attempts to do so by forcing an arbitrary "you like this dude, and should cry when he dies), a much more liberal, natural and raw depiction of violence in both battle and society, and obviously, no shirking away from depicting certain anatomical bits. Overall, games churned out by Eastern Europe are generally much darker and sombre.
Eastern European dark fantasy, best fantasy.
It's confirmed!
Potwierdzamy. Rozpoczęliśmy przygotowania do produkcji pełnometrażowego aktorskiego filmu fabularnego „Wiedźmin”, za który odpowiedzialny będzie Tomek Bagiński i ekipa Platige Films. Scenariusz powstanie w oparciu o prozę Andrzeja Sapkowskiego. Projekt jest obecnie w fazie developmentu.
Which means that not only it will be a live-action film, but an adaptation of the Sapkowski's books, not the video games.
Will it be in polish?
Will it be in polish?
No mention of it but honestly it can go both ways. I wouldn't be surprised with mixed cast and entire film in English. [editline]22nd August 2014[/editline] Polish-speaking film of such scale and worldwide recognition surely would boost our cinematography, but definitely limit its target - majority of foreign audiences (I'm looking at American and Brits) have problems with subtitles films.
The only actors I see that would fit as Geralt are Mads Mikkelsen or Viggo Mortensen.
Wished it was animation, but hey, why not.
The only actors I see that would fit as Geralt are Mads Mikkelsen or Viggo Mortensen.
Funnily enough - Sapkowski himself not so long ago lobbied for Mikkelsen as Geralt. Ten years ago or more Kevin Costner was his choice, but now he's too old.
