ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida judge presiding over the Trayvon Martin shooting case removed herself Wednesday after the attorney for defendant George Zimmerman argued she had a possible conflict of interest that related to her husband. Judge Kenneth M. Lester Jr. will preside over the case. The next judge who would be in the court rotation, John D. Galluzzo, also cited a conflict, so Lester was selected, according to a news release from the court. Florida Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler had said she would make a decision by Friday, when a bond hearing for Zimmerman had been set. Her husband works with Orlando attorney Mark NeJame, who was first approached by Zimmerman's family to represent the neighborhood watch volunteer. But NeJame declined and referred them to Mark O'Mara, who is now representing Zimmerman. NeJame has since been hired by CNN to comment on the case. Galluzzo said he had a conflict because of his personal and business relationship with O'Mara. O'Mara said he requested that Recksiedler step down now because the case is just beginning and he wanted any possible conflict to be addressed right away rather than in the middle of the case. Recksiedler was assigned the case after Zimmerman's arrest last week. Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for the Feb. 26 shooting of the 17-year-old Martin. Zimmerman said he shot Martin in self-defense after he says the teen attacked him. Martin was unarmed. Martin's family and supporters claim Zimmerman was the aggressor, targeting Martin for suspicion mainly because he was black. Zimmerman's father is white and his mother Hispanic. Lester, 58, was first elected to the bench in 1996. He was born in Chicago and grew up in central Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1980, a year behind the special prosecutor in the case, Angela Corey. A spokeswoman for Corey didn't immediately return an email and phone call asking if they knew each other. The switch in judges isn't expected to change Friday's bail hearing during which Zimmerman will ask to be released on bond.
Source
I would too if I had to put up with that kind of case.
I would too if I had to put up with that kind of case.
Didn't quit because of the case, quit because of a possible conflict of interest.
Call me insensitive, but I think that this whole Trayvon Martin thing is getting way too much attention.
Call me insensitive, but I think that this whole Trayvon Martin thing is getting way too much attention.
It is, I honestly don't see how this is any of ours or the medias business.
Call me insensitive, but I think that this whole Trayvon Martin thing is getting way too much attention.
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
"nuh uh thats impossibl u r so rasist, we kare abaout wite kidz 2" says the media
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
Don't forget about Natalie Holloway
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
As racist as it may sound, you're right. Plus this thing has just annoyed the fuck out of me with the media being all dramatic about this.
Didn't quit because of the case, quit because of a possible conflict of interest.
I understand that, but I still believe that the media blowout certainly assisted.
Where's that joker "Medical Drama, Human Conflict....ratings!" video when you need it.
As racist as it may sound, you're right. Plus this thing has just annoyed the fuck out of me with the media being all dramatic about this.
On the bright side, I'm getting published in our school paper for an editorial about how people won't shut up about the case.
On the bright side, I'm getting published in our school paper for an editorial about how people won't shut up about the case.
Everyone will think you are an asshole
Didn't quit because of the case, quit because of a possible conflict of interest.
You would need some sort of excuse to quit... I'd make up a conflict of interest to get out of having to judge this case... The case is so publicized right now that any decision you make half of the country is going to hate you.

Hell, it was the defense attorney who pointed out the conflict.
I would too, screw the case it's getting pretty old by now, just because one kid got shot doesn't mean the entire nation should be weeping when they don't know that much about the case / ignore the fact that people die every single minute. There's far worse than a simple kid dying, like people being killing in the street for being gay or whatever, why did this ONE incident get so much more attention than those? Oh, I get it, because the media is stupid.
Everyone will think you are an asshole
Worth it. If the media has taught me anything throughout this, it's that I don't have to care about my reputation as long as I sell papers!
Call me insensitive, but I think that this whole Trayvon Martin thing is getting way too much attention.
It's not so much the amount of attention, but the type of attention. It's a bunch of ill-informed people shouting murder, at a national level. At that kind of magnitude, it's going to affect the court system, causing problems such as these. If people were more level headed and acted on intellect as opposed to emotion, it wouldn't be like this. However, I can see why it is so easy to act on emotion in a case like these... we're humans.
I would too if I had to put up with that kind of case.

I would too, screw the case
How come people don't read more than the headline anymore, the judge quit because she had to; her husband works with a CNN legal analyst who has commented on the case.
How come people don't read more than the headline anymore, the judge quit because she had to; her husband works with a CNN legal analyst who has commented on the case.
I still would have I have no good attitude with the case a stubborn kid and a dumb guy got together and had some little fight, one got shot, people over-reacted
I would too if I had to put up with that kind of case.
Great reading. What the hell would a judge quit such a high profile case? It makes it easy for them to get reelected.
I didn't make this image. I only saved it for future reference. There is definitely at least some bias going on so, please, seriously think about what the image says and research the topic before believing it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/8zsAk.gif[/t] http://i.imgur.com/8zsAk.gif
Jesus so many people miss the point: The reason why this case got big was because Zimmerman wasn't going to get any charges, that's it. I can't believe some of you guys honestly believe it was because a white (half Hispanic though) killed a black person. Critical thinking is key, something no one in society seems to want to do. I guess the decline in math or any other logic based study is blame, whatever. The point is people should know better.
Well you should delete it then, most of the information is fake.
That and the captured murderers in that picture, are now in prison or on trial, something which initially wasn't going to happen to Zimmerman, until the public outcry changed that. There is nothing to publicly outcry about cases where the accused or on trial or convicted.

[editline]18th April 2012[/editline]
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
It's getting so much goddamn attention because Mr. Zimmerman admitted straight up to the police he shot and killed the kid and wasn't even given charges first off. And yes, white privilege comes into the picture, seeing as if you actually read the initial police reports, they state 'white male'.

You don't charge someone until the investigation is complete. They did this exactly how they do every fucking case. The only time someone is immediately arrested is if they are an obvious threat to society, which Zimmerman wasn't. There was enough reason to suspect self defense, and Zimmerman has a clean record and is captain of the neighborhood watch, so it was safe to not detain him. [editline]19th April 2012[/editline] I mean anyone who was pissed Zimmerman wasn't charged outright is not using their critical thinking skills.
Its getting so much attention because the kid was black. Had it been some white American kid it would not have this much attention.
that's because if trayvon was white he wouldn't have been shot
that's because if trayvon was white he wouldn't have been shot
I didn't know you were there at the scene of the alleged crime. Why don't you testify then?
