I figured this wouldn't qualify as a post-your because of the amount of thought that had to go into a reply.
The Olympics mean different things to different people.
To the more practical among us, they serve as a means of entertainment, and nothing more. That's certainly the viewpoint of the TV broadcasters that cover the games, to be sure.
To the idealists, the Olympics are an opportunity for the cultures and nations of the world to come together to forge kinships and settle differences in sporting competition, rather than with war.
To nationalists, the Games represent a step closer to globalization - something they dread.
Myself, I find the Olympics to be an inspiring symbol of humanity's potential. If the brightest among us aren't in this spotlight this time, humanity's strongest, fastest, fittest, most graceful and most determined are. I've seen Olympians display near-superhuman ability, doing things I'd never have thought possible before I watched my first Games. Like running a kilometer in just 131 seconds. The Olympics to me are a symbol of what any human being can accomplish with perseverance and persistence.
What about you?
The Olympics mean nothing to me.
Fuck all. It's just like your schools sports day, watching people run. Except there's Kenyans.

Less than ten seconds after the OP. Impressive.
Nothing at all. I don't find it inspiring, I find it boring and uninteresting.
absolutely fuck all

Well the thread was in the title, all the stuff you wrote in the thread isn't going to change what it means to us.
I really like to watch the olympics
It's an old tradition that i admire.
I don't really care for the Olympics, but the Olympics have a kind of unifying effect that puts the whole world on the same page for a while.
Only during the Olympics do you find every major news network in the world talking about the same thing.
I don't care about the Winter Olympics but I enjoy the Summer Olympics. But I prefer the beach to watching the Olympics any day.
skillz.
Other than that I don't care too much about them.
Just another chance for America to prove how awesome we are
Except for the last eight years...forget about that...
But really...it's cool to watch the best of the best...on a side note I only watch lugging, bobsledding and hockey
Jack and Shit
I don't really care.
Shit all tbh.
Nothing but a failed UN stunt.

...
You're an idiot. The olympics have been going for longer than the UN and if you count the ancient ones, longer than any government exists today has been around.
Oh wait, I forgot COOL AND EDGY, GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY EVERYONE PUT ON YOUR TINFOIL HATS.

Nothing at all. I've seen enough of the olympics for today and tomorrow and forever.
It's like they are sending global warming on the news all the time.
To me it means I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks for my TV shows to get back on.
At least my dad is sitting behind the tv all day instead of bothering me.
Very little, until someone like Jesse Owens turns up. Then things become interesting.
I think it's great watching countries fight each other.
I do not care about the olympics to be frank
Jack shit.
They mean I get to watch people get hurt.
i like watching the best people in the world duke it out but as far as national pride i could care less
People who are good at things that mean nothing in the modern world compete in dangerous sports for no good reason.

This. I don't give a shit. In fact i didn't even know this shit was up until i clicked on the google homepage.
