My comment:
A great Anime movie that is not filled with student with school uniform, girls with big breast, annoying characters with annoying face reaction or any WTF stuff we see today.
Definitely my favorite anime film of all time. That's especially saying a lot since there are few animes I actually like.
It's pretty cool, the guy drew as many people ugly as he could, because it was more of a challenge apparently, made it more interesting imo.
Not seen it in a few years though, should probably get a hold of it again.
Favorite Japanese movie of all time. I love the hell out of Akira.
Fun fact: my middle name is Akira, ironically I haven't seen this movie.

But yeah I've never seen the actual movie.
The entire movie summed up in one word:
TETSUO!
[editline]05:47PM[/editline]
Also, this is one of the few Anime's I actually enjoy, it seems to be pre-kawaii era.
This movie's awesome. My favorite Manga as well.
I hate the American voice acting though.
Also some copy-pasta from Wikipedia:
In the early 1990s, Kodansha Ltd. was in negotiation with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action remake of the film. This, Jin-Roh, Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D are the only animes I'll ever accept to watch.

26k posts and I've never seen you around
This movie's great, the manga even better.

I like this trailer, as it gives no indication as to what the hell is going on:

First real anime I ever saw.
When I first watched akira I was like holy shit badass.
I wanted to branch out into anime a bit more, so I looked around and looked for some serious stuff to watch. This is one of the first movies I've watched that's anime and I wasn't let down. This movie is incredibly enjoyable.
This looks to be pretty awesome.
Added to my "Must watch" list.
I can really appreciate the effort they put into the the animation.

I just finished it and I have one question:
What the hell did I just watch?

You've never seen Ben_Wolfe around? What does Kanye West have to do with Akira?
You've never seen Ben_Wolfe around? What does Kanye West have to do with Akira?
The machine in the first part of the video is the monitor machine.
This, Jin-Roh, Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D are the only animes I'll ever accept to watch.
What about Ghost in the Shell?
The machine in the first part of the video is the monitor machine.
The video's clearly heavily influenced throughout, I thought that the motorcycle bits were more obvious.
Also, I love this film, but I prefer Ghost in the Shell. It's pretty decent.

Ghost in the Shell is good too.
Haven't seen this though.

Strangely, I've seen you on occassion.
I lurk just about everywhere.
I had seen this once, and when I did a homestay in Japan my host sister's name was Akira, and I thought she was going to be a badass.
Okay, sorry I bumped this.
I watched this 1st when I was around 8. Then last night I thought what the hell I can't remember the movie so I may as well watch it again. It's ana amazing movie and the only Anime I've ever watched.
10/10 and a must see for anyone.
